What is labor pain

What is labor pain

From the first day a woman finds out she is pregnant, she will begin to learn everything about being a mother. She gradually masters a lot of knowledge and has a lot of experience in prenatal education. Many people also participate in training classes for pregnant women. However, there are still many things that expectant mothers do not understand, such as labor pains. Since most of them are first-time parents and have no experience, their understanding of labor pains is limited to movies and TV dramas.

Labor pain is something unfamiliar to many people, but for women who have childbirth experience, it is definitely a nightmare memory, so it is important for women who are about to give birth to understand what labor pain is.

In clinical medicine, labor pains refer to the physiological phenomenon of pain caused by uterine contractions before delivery.

Many women do not have enough understanding of labor pains and mistakenly take false labor pains which are unrelated to delivery, are short-lived, irregular, and of low intensity, as the onset of labor, thus wasting a lot of energy. When it comes to really pushing hard to deliver the baby, she feels exhausted, and the screaming causes intestinal bloating, which is not conducive to the dilation of the cervix and the descent of the fetus. The feeling of labor pain is different from ordinary pain. It contracts about every 3 to 5 minutes and each time lasts 30 to 40 seconds. When the cervix is close to fully dilated, the uterus may contract as frequently as once every 1 to 2 minutes and each time lasts 45 to 60 seconds. The pain of labor will gradually become stronger. Increasing pain means that the fetus is about to be born. Don't panic when facing labor pains that are getting faster and faster.

First of all, the mother should have a correct understanding of childbirth, eliminate mental tension, take good rest during contractions, and can also read a book or listen to music to relax herself. Eat meals and drink water regularly to ensure your body has enough energy and strength. These not only facilitate labor, but also greatly enhance pain tolerance. If the pain is really unbearable, you can also relieve the pain by adjusting your breathing and massage. Here are 4 ways to relieve labor pain for expectant mothers:

1Adjust your breathing. Towards the end of labor, the pain will intensify and increase, and the frequency will also become more frequent. Use full-chest breathing at the beginning and end of each contraction, and upper-chest breathing in the middle, so as to relax your lower abdomen as much as possible to reduce pain. So-called upper chest breathing is to open your mouth slightly, inhale gently through your mouth, and then blow out gently. Just use the upper part of your lungs, like blowing out a small candle, without exerting too much force. Full chest breathing means taking a deep breath, first inhaling deeply through your nose, and then exhaling slowly through your mouth.

2. Massage. While adjusting your breathing, proper massage can help relax your muscles and relieve pain. The specific method is: when inhaling, use both hands to gently massage from the lower abdomen on both sides to the center of the abdomen; when exhaling, massage from the center of the abdomen to both sides. The number of massages per minute is the same as the breathing. You can also use your hands to gently massage the uncomfortable areas, such as the waist and pubic symphysis. These areas are important meridian points. Reasonable massage can help to promote blood circulation and relieve pain.

3. Compression to relieve pain. While taking a deep breath, press your lower back or pubic symphysis with your fists.

4. Walk around appropriately. If everything is normal for the mother, she can walk around appropriately with the doctor's consent, which can also relieve pain.

Through the introduction of the above content, we can understand that labor pain is a very common symptom when pregnant women are about to give birth. By knowing these knowledge about labor pains, family members will not be panicked and don’t know what to do when pregnant women have labor pains. Some methods to relieve labor pains are also something pregnant women must know.
