Shougongsha is a medicine used in ancient China to verify a woman's chastity. It is said that if it is applied on a woman's body, it will not disappear all year round, but once she has sex with a man, it will immediately disappear into thin air. Because of this characteristic, some people in ancient China used it to test chastity.

Records and production methods of Shougongsha

The earliest record of Shougongsha appeared in "Bowuzhi" written by Zhang Hua of the Jin Dynasty, which recorded that Shougongsha was a method taught by Dongfang Shuo of the Han Dynasty to Emperor Wu of Han to test whether a woman was a virgin.

Legend has it that there are two main ways to make Shougongsha:

The first theory is that a female chameleon is placed in a container and fed cinnabar every day. When the gecko has eaten about seven pounds of cinnabar, its whole body will turn red. The gecko is then placed in a stone mortar and pounded with a large pestle ten thousand times. The cinnabar mud obtained is the gecko cinnabar.

The second theory is that there is a piece of natural cinnabar between the four claws of the gecko, and taking it out is the gecko sand.

If you apply the toad sand on a woman's arm or navel, it cannot be washed off with water. If she remains a virgin, the color will not fade throughout her life. Otherwise, the color will fade and disappear.

Can Shougongsha identify a woman's virginity? Let's use modern science to analyze it

Some modern Chinese doctors believe that the aqueous solution of gecko in Shougongsha has an inhibitory effect on the respiration of human liver cancer cells, while the medicinal properties of cinnabar are to calm the nerves, relieve shock, improve eyesight and detoxify, so on the whole, the two drugs should have nothing to do with a woman's chastity. They believe that Shougongsha is a kind of psychological suggestion therapy.

Professor Karsten of Oklahoma State University accidentally discovered several chameleons that died after mating on Mount Marumukutru. His research on the hormonal changes of these chameleons showed that they contain very high levels of estrogen and testosterone in their bodies. Under the stimulation of these sex hormones, they mate frantically and release energy. When all the sex hormones are released, they will die of exhaustion! From this, Professor Carsten thought that the ancient Chinese used female chameleons to make "Shougongsha" perhaps for this principle: once the high content of female hormones in female chameleons encounters male hormones, they will offset or neutralize each other, causing the "Shougongsha" to fade and finally disappear.

Pharmacological perspective

Shougongsha has salty and cold properties. Its aqueous solution has a significant inhibitory effect on the respiration of human liver cancer cells. It is also rich in vitamin E and has certain anti-cancer activity. It is mainly used to dispel wind, activate collaterals, disperse nodules and fight cancer. Cinnabar has a sweet and cool nature and can calm the mind, relieve shock, improve eyesight and detoxify. The reason why the ancients used these two medicines together was, firstly, to take advantage of their cold nature. By placing them on the jade arm, they could extend to the three yang meridians of the hand, spread through the collaterals, nourish the mind, and remove the heat of lust in women. Second, from the perspective of modern medicine, it is mainly a psychological suggestion therapy, which makes women subconsciously feel awe and shame and dare not cross the moral bottom line. Mainly constrained by the morals of feudal society, it serves as a mental warning for most women who have not had sexual relations with men.

About first night

In modern society, the only criterion for judging whether an unmarried woman is a virgin may be the hymen. However, is the hymen really the criterion for testing virginity?

Eight out of ten women in the Netherlands experience no visible bleeding during their virginity. The truth about not seeing red on the first night

Since the hymen is not easily broken, why do many women not bleed during their first sexual intercourse? Does sexual intercourse also not rupture the hymen? Why do many women bleed during the second or third sexual intercourse? Why do some people never bleed at all?

The reason is very simple. The damage to the hymen will cause a small amount of bleeding, but the amount of bleeding is generally very small, equivalent to a few drops of blood, and will never be as much as menstrual flow. Moreover, this type of bleeding is caused by the rupture of capillaries, not large blood vessels, and the bleeding rate is slower. In addition, the hymen is actually a "band-shaped" circle, not a very hard and tough ring. It will swing with the thrusting movement of the penis during sexual intercourse. If the penis moves with great force, fast speed, and large amplitude, these folds will be damaged and cause bleeding; if the penis moves with little force, slow speed, and small amplitude, these folds will most likely not be damaged, and therefore will not bleed.

When having sexual intercourse for the first time, women are often very shy and worried and anxious about the sexual feelings they have never experienced before. Coupled with the terrifying description of "losing virginity" in traditional sex education, they will be both excited and afraid, and will ask men to be gentle and considerate. Men may also worry about causing pain to women, so they try to use less force and move slower. In addition, during sexual intercourse, a large amount of mucus is secreted in the vagina and mixed with semen, so it is likely that even a small amount of bleeding will be obvious and will not be discovered by people. Therefore, many women will not see blood during their first night. Dutch experts point out that 80% of women in the Netherlands do not bleed during their first sexual intercourse. This situation is very common, not because the woman's hymen has been ruptured during exercise, but because of the reasons mentioned above.

During the second and third sexual intercourse, women are no longer as afraid as they were the first time, and men are more relaxed. Both people enjoy sexual sensations more fully, and the penis's thrusting in the vagina will be much more violent. At this time, the hymen will often break and bleed. This explains why many women bleed during the second or third sexual intercourse.
