Female thermometer

Female thermometer

Women's temperatures are different during pregnancy, especially during ovulation. If women can do scientific tests on their body temperature, they will be able to detect pregnancy very well, especially since many women usually make some female thermometers. These thermometers can be used to detect whether a woman is pregnant or not. Sometimes, this thermometer is also indispensable when treating some diseases.

Although the female thermometer is just a simple chart showing daily body temperatures, it actually contains the unspeakable secret of pregnancy. A normal female's body temperature changes, just like the menstrual cycle. Such changes are related to ovulation. By testing body temperature, you can determine when ovulation occurs.

Basal body temperature principle

The basal body temperature of normal women of childbearing age changes cyclically, just like the menstrual cycle, and this temperature change is related to ovulation.

The female menstrual cycle begins on the first day of menstrual bleeding. The length of the cycle varies from person to person, ranging from about 21-35 days, with an average of about 28 days. It is divided into the follicular phase before ovulation and the luteal phase after ovulation based on the ovulation day. The length of the follicular phase is not fixed, but the luteal phase is about 14 days, plus or minus two days. The day after ovulation, the corpus luteum is formed in the ovary and the secretion of progesterone will cause the body temperature to rise by about 0.6 degrees Celsius, causing the body temperature to fluctuate between high and low phases. The high temperature period lasts about 12-16 days (14 days on average).

1. If there is no pregnancy, the corpus luteum shrinks and stops secreting progesterone, the body temperature drops, returns to the baseline, and menstruation occurs.

2. If you are already pregnant, the corpus luteum will continue to secrete progesterone because it is supported by the hormones secreted by the embryo, and your body temperature will remain high.

3. If the ovaries function poorly, there is no ovulation and no corpus luteum is formed, the body temperature will remain low.

How to determine pregnancy through the basal body temperature method? The basal body temperature usually rises with ovulation. In the first half of the menstrual cycle, the body temperature fluctuates below 36.6 degrees. After ovulation, it enters the second half of the menstrual cycle. The body temperature is higher than the first half and fluctuates between 36.6 degrees and 37 degrees. The rise in body temperature indicates ovulation. After a high temperature period lasting about two weeks, the body temperature drops again, and then it is the turn of the monthly menstruation period. If you are pregnant, your basal body temperature will not drop but remain at a high temperature. The reason why your body temperature remains high is that the amount of hormones secreted by the ovaries increases after pregnancy. However, women with poor ovarian function or fever caused by a cold will affect the basal body temperature curve, so the accuracy is not 100%.

The role of basal body temperature

1. Determine whether ovulation occurs and guide contraception

Generally, the basal body temperature during the follicular phase is 36.5℃, and it rises by more than 0.5℃ during the luteal phase, resulting in a biphasic performance, indicating ovulation. If the monophasic body temperature curve does not have a later increase, it indicates that there is no ovulation. The accuracy rate is 70%~80%.

If the body temperature rises by 0.3-0.6℃ or even higher within 24 hours, it means that you are in the ovulation state.

In addition, basal body temperature can also roughly reflect the quality of the eggs released. If the high temperature period of basal body temperature is longer, lasting 13 to 14 days, it means that the quality of the egg is good.

2 Diagnosing early pregnancy and judging safety in early pregnancy

If your basal body temperature remains high for more than two weeks, you should consider going to the hospital for a check-up because you may be pregnant. If it is ≥20 days, it can be confirmed as early pregnancy. In the early stages of pregnancy, the BBT curve gradually decreases, indicating luteal insufficiency or placental dysfunction, and a tendency to miscarriage.

3 Observe corpus luteum function

BBT should rise immediately after ovulation and remain at a high level for ≥ 11 days. If BBT rises in a step-like manner and the curve takes 3 days to reach a high level, or BBT rises steadily for < 11 days, it can be diagnosed as luteal phase deficiency (LPD).

4. Other lesions

If BBT does not decrease during menstruation, it may be due to endometriosis or early subclinical miscarriage. The lesions of endometriosis will produce absorption heat after bleeding. When the BBT of a patient with primary amenorrhea is biphasic, uterine amenorrhea should be considered, such as congenital absence of the uterus or genital tuberculosis causing destruction of the endometrium.

5 Calculating the appropriate time for endometrial biopsy

For patients with irregular cycles, in order to understand whether the endometrium has a secretory response and the function of the corpus luteum, an endometrial biopsy should be performed 2 to 3 days before the next menstrual period after the BBT rises.

Unveiling the mysterious "veil" of basal body temperature

Basal body temperature (BBT), also known as resting body temperature, refers to the body temperature measured after a woman has 6 to 8 hours of sleep, when her body temperature has not been affected by exercise, diet or emotional changes. It is the lowest body temperature of the human body in a day and night.

The body temperature regulation center is extremely sensitive to the effects of progesterone (also known as luteinizing hormone). A certain amount of progesterone (12.8nmol/L) can cause an increase in body temperature.

The day after a woman ovulates, the corpus luteum forms in the ovary and secretes progesterone, which causes the body temperature to rise by about 0.6 degrees Celsius, causing the body temperature to fluctuate between high and low phases. The high temperature period lasts about 12 to 16 days (14 days on average). If there is no pregnancy, the corpus luteum shrinks and stops secreting progesterone, the body temperature drops to the baseline, and menstruation occurs. If you are already pregnant, the corpus luteum will continue to secrete progesterone because it is supported by the hormones secreted by the embryo, and your body temperature will remain high. If the ovaries do not function properly, there will be no ovulation and no corpus luteum will form, and the body temperature will remain low.

The female menstrual cycle starts on the first day of menstrual bleeding. The length of the cycle varies from person to person, ranging from 21 to 35 days, with an average of about 28 days. It is divided by the ovulation day. The follicular phase is before ovulation, and the luteal phase is after ovulation. The length of the follicular phase is not fixed, but the normal luteal phase is about 14 days, plus or minus two days.

How to measure basal body temperature

It is recommended to use a dedicated basal body thermometer.

Place the basal body thermometer next to your pillow where you can easily reach it before going to bed. When you wake up the next day, before you get up and move around, place it under your tongue and measure for 5 minutes, and record the temperature on the basal body temperature chart.

If you have difficulty measuring your body temperature in the morning, you can measure it at a fixed time every day. Remember not to do strenuous exercise or drink hot or cold food half an hour before.

Although the method of measuring basal body temperature is simple, it is strict and requires long-term persistence. Generally, more than three consecutive menstrual cycles need to be measured to explain the problem.

During the menstrual period, if you have a cold, fever, diarrhea, insomnia, drink alcohol, use an electric blanket, etc., it is often easy to affect the basal body temperature. Be careful when measuring and make sure to mark it specially.

A female thermometer can be used to determine whether a woman has ovulated. This is a good method for both women who do not want children and women who do. The body temperature during ovulation is slightly elevated, and by judging the temperature it is possible to determine whether ovulation has occurred, as well as early pregnancy and diagnose some early pregnancy conditions.
