How to deal with Mirena IUD bleeding

How to deal with Mirena IUD bleeding

A reminder to many female friends: you need to be cautious when choosing to have an IUD inserted, because it is like placing a new object in a woman's body. This ring is a foreign body to women, so there may be rejection, and the body needs time to adapt. Some women will experience temporary bleeding after having the IUD inserted. How should you deal with this?

1. What should I do if I bleed after IUD insertion?

Generally speaking, in the early stage of IUD insertion, some women will experience varying degrees of increase in menstrual volume, prolonged menstruation, or irregular spotting. The key is that when the uterine wall falls off, friction occurs between the contraceptive ring and the uterine wall, causing damage to the uterine wall, which will generally get better naturally. If the bleeding is heavy and lasts for a long time, it may be because the uterus has not yet completely integrated the contraceptive ring, or because the patient went to a small clinic for an IUD operation and was infected with a gynecological disease. At this time, you need to go to the hospital for further examination. It is convenient to diagnose the disease and provide targeted treatment.

1. During the vaginal bleeding period after the IUD is inserted, pay attention to rest and take some medicine appropriately. Eat more iron-containing foods in your diet, such as beef liver, fresh fruits, peanut kernels, walnut kernels, etc. After these treatments, if the bleeding does not stop or the above symptoms do not improve after 3 to 6 months, you can consider changing the ring or removing the contraceptive ring and switching to other forms of contraception. If the changes in the menstrual cycle are more obvious, you should go to the hospital for examination.

2. Take adequate rest and avoid heavy physical work. Generally, you need to rest for 1 to 2 days after the ring is placed, and you don't need to do heavy physical work within a week to prevent the ring from falling off and causing bleeding.

3. Pay attention to hygiene and prevent infection. After the IUD is inserted, the vulva should be cleaned every day to keep it clean. There is no need to take a bath in a basin within 2 weeks, and there is no need to have sex within 2 weeks to prevent infection.

4. Pay attention to vaginal bleeding and the falling of the ring. If you find that the vaginal bleeding is heavy, more than twice the normal menstrual blood volume or the bleeding time is long, or the changes in the menstrual cycle are more obvious, you should go to the hospital for examination. During the first three months, you should also pay attention to whether the ring has fallen off.

5. Regular maintenance: Generally, the first check-up after the placement of the ring is after the first menstruation, the second check-up is within 3 to 6 months after the placement of the ring, and the third check-up is at a follow-up visit 12 months after the placement of the ring, and then follow-up once a year.

2. Diet therapy for bleeding after IUD insertion

1. If the patient has vaginal bleeding, or red discharge, increased menstrual volume, red color with odor, prolonged menstruation, lower abdominal pain, usually clear and thin blood, slightly yellow, slightly red tongue, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and thin pulse. This condition belongs to the lower burner damp-heat type. The treatment needs to eliminate the cold and dampness. You can use 12 grams each of Herba Artemisiae Scopariae and Artemisia Capillaris, 20 grams each of Cuttlebone and Chinese Toon Root Bark, 15 grams each of Pulsatilla, Cyperus rotundus, Cockscomb, Taraxacum flower, and Patrinia scabra, and 10 grams each of Poria and stir-fried Phellodendron chinense, decocted in water and taken orally.

2. If the patient has vaginal bleeding, or it is not smooth, the bleeding is purple with clots, the amount is large, or it is difficult to stop, the lower abdomen and lumbar spine are falling, the tongue is dark, the tongue coating is white and greasy, and the pulse is deep. This condition belongs to the type of Qi deficiency and blood stasis. The treatment should be to promote Qi, activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis. You can use 5 grams each of Chuanxiong and Qianghuo, 8 grams each of peach kernel and Cyperus rotundus, 4 grams of Paojiang, 12 grams of Motherwort granules, 10 grams each of Puhuang and Rubia cordifolia, decocted in water and taken orally.

3. If the patient has heavy vaginal bleeding, or long menstrual period, light color, thin texture, chest tightness, shortness of breath, fatigue, pale face, pale and tender tongue with tooth marks, greasy white tongue coating, and thin pulse. This condition belongs to the spleen deficiency type, and the treatment needs to strengthen the spleen and stomach and absorb blood. You can use 15 grams of Codonopsis pilosula, 12 grams of raw Astragalus, 10 grams each of Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria, donkey-hide gelatin cake (melted), and Schizonepeta charcoal, 8 grams of Citrus aurantium, 6 grams each of Cimicifuga charcoal and raw licorice, 5 grams of Scutellaria baicalensis, and 20 grams each of cuttlebone and Agrimoniae scabra. Boil in water and take orally.

3. What is the reason for bleeding during sex after inserting an IUD?

At present, most pregnant women choose to use IUD as a contraceptive measure, which is convenient and safe. It takes some time after the IUD is inserted before you can have sex. It is best to have sex three weeks after the IUD is inserted. If you are in a hurry, you should wait at least one week. This can minimize the harm to both parties, mainly to avoid infection and other situations.

Women who use IUDs for contraception sometimes experience bleeding during intercourse. This is because the intrauterine ring is a foreign body in the uterine cavity, and its reflexive compression can cause partial damage, necrosis, and ulcers of the uterine wall, and there is a possibility of bleeding. In this case, the stimulation of intercourse will inevitably cause bleeding. But generally after a period of time, the bleeding will be alleviated or disappear after the contraceptive ring is integrated into the body.
