What does a small amount of fluid in the Dow's cavity mean?

The Dow's cavity belongs to the pelvis and is the smallest part of the pelvis. Pelvic inflammatory disease usually causes Tau cavity effusion. Physiological pelvic effusion mostly occurs after ovulation or during early pregnancy, and can usually disappear naturally. Most pelvic effusion is caused by inflammation. So, what does a small amount of effusion in the Dow's cavity mean?

Pelvic effusion is a manifestation rather than a disease. To be more precise, it is a description of the fluid in the pelvis by imaging diagnosis. It can be divided into two types: physiological pelvic effusion and physiological pelvic effusion. Physiological pelvic effusion may occur after pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis or endometriosis, and is the main imaging diagnostic feature of pelvic inflammatory disease.

Causes

1. Causes of physiological pelvic effusion

Some normal women will have a small amount of pelvic fluid during their menstrual period or ovulation. This is because the pelvis is anatomically located at the smallest position in the abdomen. When there is a small amount of leaking fluid, exudate, or bleeding from the pelvic and abdominal visceral organs, the fluid will first accumulate in the pelvis, resulting in pelvic effusion. For example, during menstruation, a small amount of menstrual blood flows back into the pelvis, which can cause pelvic effusion. The accumulation of egg fluid in the pelvis during the ovulation period in the middle and late menstrual period can also cause pelvic effusion. For patients with constipation, due to abnormal gastrointestinal function, a small amount of intestinal fluid extravasation can cause pelvic effusion.

2. Causes of physiological pelvic effusion

(1) Not paying attention to hygiene during menstruation When you have your first menstruation, the uterine wall will fall off, the blood sinuses inside the uterine cavity will be open, and small blood clots will exist, which is very suitable for the growth of bacteria. If you do not pay attention to hygiene during the menarche, use unclean sanitary napkins, handkerchiefs, etc., or have sex during menstruation, it provides a good opportunity for the growth and infection of bacteria and causes pelvic inflammatory disease in women.

(2) When inflammation of adjacent organs spreads to women suffering from appendicitis or retroperitoneal inflammation, they are more likely to develop pelvic inflammation. When you suffer from vaginitis or cervicitis, the inflammation will lead to infection and eventually cause pelvic inflammatory disease.

(3) Infection after childbirth or abortion After childbirth or abortion, pregnant women are weak and their immunity is reduced. At this time, the cervix is dilated. If hygiene is not paid attention to, the bacteria in the vagina and cervix may spread upward and cause pelvic infection in women.

(4) Infection after minimally invasive gynecological surgery, such as abortion, IUD insertion (removal), angiography (fluid perfusion), etc. If the disinfection and sterilization are not strict during the operation, it is very easy to have a high incidence of infection after the operation. If you do not pay attention to hygiene after the operation, do not carry out recovery treatment according to the doctor's instructions, or have sex too soon after treatment, it will cause bacteria to grow and cause pelvic infection in women.

(5) In addition, uterine, ovarian and bilateral fallopian tube tumors and kidney diseases can also cause pelvic effusion accompanied by ascites and even pleural effusion. Ectopic pregnancy and corpus luteum rupture can cause persistent hemorrhage in the pelvis. During tuberculous pelvic inflammatory disease, the retroperitoneum and the surface of the pelvic visceral organs are covered with miliary tuberculosis lesions, which cause a lot of transudate to accumulate in the pelvis.
