How big is the adenomyoma and should the uterus be removed?

Adenomyosis is a symptom caused by the growth of uterine wall in the uterus. The most common symptom is idiopathic exacerbated menstrual pain. The actual treatment methods include conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Conservative treatment is suitable for patients with tolerable abdominal pain during menstruation and adenomyosis is less than 4 cm in size. If the adenomyoma is larger than 4-5cm, the patient is over 45 years old and has no pregnancy requirements; or if the adenomyoma is not large but the dysmenorrhea symptoms are severe and intolerable; or if the adenomyoma is close to the uterine wall, affecting the menstrual period, increasing the menstrual flow, and causing anemia; and if there is a change in the pain pattern, patients suspected of worsening can choose surgical treatment of total hysterectomy.

Adenomyoma is a tumor caused by the migration of the uterine wall to the muscle layer of the uterus. The tumor has no boundaries. If the diameter of the adenomyoma exceeds 5 cm, it will cause severe abdominal pain, compression of the bladder, frequent urination, urgency, inability to hold urine, and a feeling of incomplete urination. It will also compress the duodenum and cause constipation symptoms, and surgical removal is required. After the operation, intramuscular injection of leuprorelin or goserelin is needed to suppress the onset of adenomyoma. You can also wear Mirena IUD to reduce recurrence. In the case of adenomyoma, spicy, irritating, and cold foods should be avoided. If symptoms occur, timely surgical treatment can alleviate the symptoms.

If the uterine adenomyoma is larger than 3 cm, surgery is recommended for treatment. If its diameter is less than 3cm, it is recommended to have regular follow-up visits and seek medical attention immediately if any abnormalities occur. Reduce excessive exercise to avoid adenomyosis compressing the abdomen and causing pain. You should also control your diet and try to avoid spicy and irritating foods, as this will cause lower abdominal pain and cover up the condition. Also don't eat too much blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing food, as this will accelerate the growth rate of adenomyoma. Be sure to have regular follow-up ultrasounds and seek medical attention immediately.

If the volume of a single uterine fibroid exceeds 5 cm, it is very likely to metastasize and requires surgery. In addition, if multiple uterine fibroids cause the uterine volume to expand beyond the second month of pregnancy and affect the menstrual period, this is also an indication for surgery. Surgery can be performed abdominally, vaginally, or via hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, and surgical methods include myomectomy and hysterectomy. Uterine fibroid removal surgery is suitable for patients with uterine fibroids who wish to preserve their fertility. If there is no longer any desire to conceive, or if there is suspicion of deterioration, a hysterectomy should be performed.
