What are the physical characteristics of Down syndrome children? Children with Down syndrome have very obvious physical features, such as wide-set eyes, low nose bridge, small palpebral fissures, upward slanting eyes, excess skin at the corners of the eyes, small external auditory canals, fat tongues that often stick out of the mouth, and excessive drooling.

Children with Down syndrome all have distinct physical features.

Main manifestations:

1. Such as wide distance between eyes, low bridge of nose, small palpebral fissure, upward slanting eyes, excess skin at the corners of eyes, small external auditory canal, fat tongue that often sticks out of the mouth, and excessive drooling.

2. Short stature, the baby's head circumference is lower than normal, the front and back diameters of the head are short, and the back of the head is flat. The neck is short and the skin is relatively loose.

3. Bone age is often measured behind the actual age, and tooth eruption is delayed and often displaced. The hair is soft and less. If the anterior fontanelle closes late, a third fontanelle may appear on the center line of the parietal occipital.

4. Short limbs. Due to loose ligaments, the joints can bend excessively. The fingers are short and thick. The middle phalanx of the little finger is underdeveloped, causing the little finger to bend inward. The phalanges are short, and the trifurcation point in the palm moves distally. Palm lines and numb feet are common. More than half of the patients have arched skin lines on the ball of the big toe.

However, this type of dysplasia is generally not serious enough to threaten life.

Main manifestations:

1. The average weight and height of the patient at birth are generally slightly lower than those of normal children, and the muscle strength is relatively weak.

2. The most prominent deformity is the craniofacial deformity. The head is small and round, the back of the head is relatively flat, the face is small and round, and the nose is low and flat;

3. The slit between the eyes is small, the distance between the eyes is wide, and they are tilted outward and upward. There is obvious excess fat at the corners of the eyes. Some patients also have short and sparse eyelashes and squint when looking at things.

4. There are white spots on the retina and crystalline turbidity often occurs. The lips are small and the mouth is thick, the mouth often protrudes outward, and the lips are often open;

5. The external auditory canal is small, the growth position inside the ear is relatively low, and the auricle is deformed. The hair is straight and not frizzy. The neck and back are short and broad. Poor self-control.

1. Children often want to sleep all the time and have difficulty feeding

The manifestations of intellectual disability will gradually become more obvious with age, with IQ between 25 and 50, and both physical growth and sexual development are delayed.

2. The human body is very weak and relaxed

When holding the patient, you will find that his body is very weak and loose, his little finger is short, and there is only one vertical line on his palm.

3. Human growth retardation

The patients have delayed physical growth and development, and many babies with Down syndrome may also have congenital defects of the heart and other organs. In addition, due to low immune function, they are prone to various infections, and the incidence of sepsis is 10-30 times higher than normal. If they survive into adulthood, they often develop symptoms of Alzheimer's disease after age 30.

4. Men are not likely to have fertility, but women may have fertility

When a male baby with Down syndrome grows up and reaches puberty, he will not be able to reproduce. Babies born to women with Down syndrome will have menstrual periods when they grow up and may be able to get pregnant.
