What is the reason for green vaginal discharge?

Vaginal discharge is a normal physiological phenomenon for women, but excessive, heavy, and abnormal color discharge all mean that there is a problem with the female body. At this time, it is necessary to check in time to find out what the problem is. Vaginal discharge that is green in color is usually a problem of cervical disease. Because there are many problems with the cervix, it is necessary to find out which disease it is and treat the disease in a targeted manner to get better faster. After all, the cervix is very important to women and cannot tolerate any neglect or indifference.

What causes green vaginal discharge?

1. It may be caused by cervical diseases. There are two common cervical diseases, namely cervicitis and cervical erosion.

2. Green leucorrhea is caused by bacterial vaginitis. Bacterial vaginitis is a mixed infection of Gardnerella and some hypoxic bacteria in the vagina, which causes an imbalance in the diversity of female vaginal microorganisms, resulting in increased female secretions, fishy vaginal secretions, and a syndrome of itchy and hot vulva.

3. Candida vaginitis. Vaginal discharge that is a little green may be caused by candida vaginitis, which can be treated with local medication.

4. Chronic cervicitis and endometritis: Abnormal green leucorrhea may also be a manifestation of cervicitis, or endometritis and other conditions. Generally, vaginal discharge is characterized by excessive leucorrhea, which is light yellow or light green, and has a thick pus-like consistency.

5. Gardnerella vaginitis: Gardnerella vaginitis is also called Haemophilus vaginitis. Symptoms include swelling of the female vulva, hematoma of the vaginal mucosa, gray-red color, slight swelling, increased secretions that are homogeneous, thin, grayish white, sometimes yellow-brown or emerald green, and fishy.

What to do if your vaginal discharge is emerald green:

1. See a doctor for medical treatment

If you find that your vaginal discharge has turned green, no matter what your physical condition is, it is recommended that you go to the obstetrics and gynecology department of the hospital and let the doctor conduct a gynecological examination and examine the female discharge, and if necessary, do a bacterial culture. For the sake of your own physical and mental health, you should go to a qualified hospital for medical treatment.

2. Medication

After the test results come out, medication should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor. There are oral medications for treatment, and some are also oral medications. These must be done under the advice of a doctor, and you cannot take the medicine casually. Some people usually take medicine in emulsions to allow the medicine to remain in the body for a long time, thereby achieving the actual effect of treatment.

3. Pay attention to some drug reactions

When taking metronidazole orally to treat candidal vaginal inflammation, because this medicine is very bitter, you should prepare more water when taking the medicine to dilute the bitter taste. After taking it, there are also some digestive system reactions, such as nausea and vomiting. If you experience symptoms such as rash or headache, contact your doctor immediately to stop taking the medicine.

4. Pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene

When the vaginal discharge is green, while taking medication for treatment, you should also pay attention to keeping the vulva clean and dry. In case of vulvar itching, avoid scratching which may cause skin damage. During the treatment period, couples should refrain from sexual intercourse, and underwear should be made of cotton and changed frequently.

5. Pay attention to regular maintenance

Candidal vaginitis often occurs after menstruation. Therefore, when the test result of vaginal secretion for Trichomonas is negative after treatment, vaginal secretion should still be tested after the menstruation is over. It is not cured until the test results are negative for three consecutive times.

How to test abnormal leucorrhea:

1. Large quantity

Although the color of leucorrhea is normal under normal circumstances, it is abnormal if the amount of leucorrhea is so large that it wets the underwear. This condition may be related to cervical or vaginal inflammation or erosion, polyps and other diseases.

2. The volume suddenly increases

If there is a sudden increase in the amount of vaginal discharge and the most important thing is that it is neither ovulation nor pregnancy, then you need to suspect a disease in the uterus or vagina. When bacterial infection causes inflammation, vaginal discharge becomes pus-like and the amount increases.

3. There is a peculiar smell and itching

If the leucorrhea is white and looks like yogurt and the vulva is very itchy, you should suspect candidal vaginitis. Even if the itching is not severe, if the vaginal discharge is milky white or yellowish and contains blister-like substances, it may be candidal vaginitis. When the above situation occurs and is accompanied by an unpleasant odor, it generally belongs to the above two symptoms.

4. Brown vaginal discharge

When foreign objects such as tampons used during menstruation or dropped condoms remain in the female vagina, it will immediately cause the vaginal discharge to have a foul odor and be brown in color.

5. Increased vaginal discharge during ovulation

It is quite common for women to have leucorrhea. Especially from 12 to 16 days before the expected date of menstruation, many women have increased sticky, transparent protein-like vaginal discharge. Although there are some individual differences, this type of vaginal discharge generally increases after ovulation. It is a normal physiological phenomenon that occurs during ovulation, when cervical mucus increases significantly to help sperm penetrate and make it easier for women to get pregnant.
