The difference between lochia blood clots and fetal membranes

The difference between lochia blood clots and fetal membranes

Postpartum lochia refers to the debris from the uterine decidua, especially the decidua of the fetal appendages, after delivery. It is red and contains a lot of blood. The fetal membrane is also called the placenta, which generally does not cover the maternal embryo and includes the chorion, amnion, yolk sac, allantoic sac and fetal umbilical cord.

Cause Analysis

Postpartum lochia and placental abruption are common pregnancy conditions. The former occurs after delivery, and the latter occurs in the middle and late stages of pregnancy.

Suggested measures

Postpartum lochia and blood clots are closely related to the physical fitness of children. In addition to active care and growth, more cooperation in treatment is also required. Once placental abruption occurs, the patient should be sent to the hospital in time for treatment, and the treatment opportunity should not be delayed.

Children will also experience postpartum lochia similar to their menstrual period after giving birth. This is because uterine contractions cause the embryo to fall from the endometrium, resulting in endometrial bleeding. Therefore, it will take the gradual recovery of the uterus for the lochia to stop. This is a normal phenomenon, but many mothers find that postpartum lochia discharges large blood clots. Is this normal? Let us learn about it together.

Is it normal to have a large blood clot in the lochia after childbirth?

Under normal circumstances, lochia can be cleared 4-6 weeks after giving birth. Lochia is the discharge of blood, secretions, mucus and other substances from the uterus after childbirth. It is mainly a combination of amniotic fluid, blood and fetal tissue secretions of pregnant women. Therefore, don't worry too much during this period of time. In this case, blood clots may be residual discharge. After giving birth, you must keep warm, avoid catching cold, and avoid eating spicy and irritating foods. Take some rest and release stress.

If the lochia increases, you should observe the condition of the lochia. If the lochia has an odor, or there is too much bright red lochia or white lochia and it lasts too long, recurs repeatedly, is too much, has blood clots, or even has fever or abdominal pain, you must go to the hospital for examination.

Reasons for postpartum lochia discharge

1. Residual tissue may be caused by a late pregnancy, uterine malformation, uterine fibroids, etc., or the surgeon may not be skilled enough to completely remove the pregnancy tissue, resulting in some tissue remaining in the uterine cavity.

2. Intrauterine infection may be caused by taking a sitz bath after childbirth or abortion, or using unclean sanitary napkins, or having sexual intercourse shortly after childbirth or abortion, or by the surgical operators not performing thorough disinfection and sterilization.

3. Weak uterine contractions may be caused by failure to rest well after giving birth, or by poor physical constitution and frequent illness, or by too long delivery or cesarean section, which may lead to weak uterine contractions and continuous lochia after delivery.

Is it normal for large blood clots to be discharged from lochia after delivery? It depends on the specific situation of the child. Generally, if there is no abdominal pain, fever and other symptoms during the discharge of lochia, it is generally within the normal range. However, if the above problems occur, you need to see a doctor immediately. There may be infection and other problems that need to be treated immediately.
