How to keep your baby active with fetal monitoring

Expectant mothers need to undergo various examinations during pregnancy. Fetal monitoring is the most common examination, which mainly checks whether the heartbeat of the fetus in the mother's belly is normal. If we find some abnormalities during fetal monitoring, it may be due to insufficient monitoring time, fetal hypoxia, or problems with the placenta. So, how can fetal monitoring keep the baby active?

1. You can eat some snacks before fetal heart monitoring

Some expectant mothers think that they should be on an empty stomach before a prenatal check-up, and at most replenish some water to restore their physical strength. This kind of understanding is not advisable. It is best for expectant mothers to eat some snacks before doing fetal heart monitoring. While replenishing physical energy, it will also make the fetus move more actively in the belly, allowing the two small round devices for monitoring the fetal heart to more accurately capture the fetal heart rate, thereby monitoring whether the fetal heart rate is normal, so that the doctor can give correct advice.

2. Go to the bathroom in advance

Expectant mothers will drink some water before the prenatal check-up. If they do not go to the bathroom in advance when doing fetal heart monitoring, they may feel the urge to urinate in the middle of the procedure. In order to facilitate the smooth progress of fetal heart monitoring, they cannot leave to go to the bathroom in the middle of the procedure. This feeling of holding urine will make expectant mothers very uncomfortable and they will not be able to quietly feel the fetal movement. Therefore, when expectant mothers are doing prenatal testing, especially before fetal heart monitoring, it is best to go to the bathroom in advance. After all, it takes some time to wait for fetal heart monitoring. Some expectant mothers will wait quietly beside the instrument for about 40 minutes in order to wait for the fetal heartbeat to be detected by the detection equipment, which will take a long time.

3. Lie on your left side

In order to better detect data with the small round device that detects the fetal heartbeat, expectant mothers need to master the correct posture for fetal movement detection. The most comfortable and reasonable posture is for the expectant mother to lie with her body slightly tilted to the left side, and a backrest should be used to prevent the expectant mother from feeling sore in the back. Some equipment for fetal heart monitoring also places a special chair for expectant mothers to sit on and lean against the back of the chair. This sitting posture is similar to lying on the left side, and can clearly detect the fetal heart rate.

Treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate

If within 20 minutes of fetal heart monitoring, the baby's fetal heart rate has a relatively stable baseline of 120 to 160 beats per minute, and your baby's fetal heart rate increases at least twice during activity, at least 15 beats per minute faster than the resting fetal heart rate, and each time lasts at least 15 seconds, then the fetal heart monitoring result is normal, or called "fetal heart monitoring reaction type." A normal result means your baby is probably doing well. Your doctor may have you monitor your fetal heart rate every week until your baby is born. If the fetal heart rate does not increase when the baby moves, or if the baby does not move once in 40 minutes, the result is "unresponsive". An unresponsive fetal heart rate monitor does not necessarily mean that the situation is abnormal. It only means that the monitoring does not provide enough information. You may need to do it again after 1 hour, or do other tests, such as fetal biophysical assessment or uterine contraction stress test. However, an unresponsive fetal heart rate monitor may also indicate fetal intrauterine hypoxia or a problem with the placenta.

Changxing Ultrasound, a medical fetal heart rate monitoring device, has launched the home fetal heart rate monitor Beibinfen. Pregnant women can use the home fetal heart rate monitor to monitor the fetal heart rate at home by themselves at 16 weeks, detect and deal with fetal heart rate abnormalities in time, and reduce the occurrence of unresponsive fetal heart rate monitoring. In the case of "unresponsiveness," your doctor may recommend an induction of labor or a cesarean section if he or she thinks your baby is not doing well in the womb.
