Early symptoms of hyperthyroidism in women

Hyperthyroidism is a disease that causes great harm to the human body. Perhaps for some reason, the base number of people suffering from hyperthyroidism is high and rising. In order to detect and treat the disease as early as possible, it is necessary for everyone to understand the early symptoms of hyperthyroidism in women. The disease has many manifestations such as fear of heat, diarrhea, bad mood, palpitations, etc., which have a great impact on patients. Therefore, once the above symptoms are found, it is necessary to go to the hospital as soon as possible to receive formal and scientific diagnosis and treatment.

What are the early symptoms of hyperthyroidism in women?

1. Hypermetabolism: Usually, patients will have symptoms of excessive heat production, such as heat intolerance, warm skin, moist and sweaty, especially in the palms.

2. Digestive system: Hyperphagia is a common symptom of hyperthyroidism. Although patients with hyperthyroidism eat a lot, it is far from keeping up with their consumption. Therefore, most female patients with hyperthyroidism lose weight. Some patients even have diarrhea due to increased gastrointestinal motility and a series of digestive system symptoms.

3. Mental and nervous system: Early symptoms of female hyperthyroidism patients may also include mental symptoms such as tension, irritability, irritability, and insomnia. As the disease worsens, some patients may even develop mental disorders such as depression and mania, which affect their normal life and work.

4. Cardiovascular system: Patients generally have an increased and accelerated heartbeat and often feel palpitations. Most of the time, the heart rhythm is regular, but there may be an irregular heartbeat occasionally. Due to the increase in left ventricular stroke volume, the cardiac load continues to increase, which can cause left ventricular hypertrophy, and the appearance of a blowing murmur at the apical systolic level and a hyperactive first heart sound. In the late stage, heart failure may occur, posing a serious threat to the patient's life.

What causes hyperthyroidism?

1. Internal factors

(1) Autoimmune factors: The human immune system includes cellular immunity and humoral immunity, which can protect the body from damage by various natural factors in many cases. When the body's autoimmune response exceeds psychological limits or lasts too long, it can cause damage and dysfunction to its own tissues and lead to disease. Hyperthyroidism patients have the characteristics of humoral immunity and cellular immunity diseases. This antibody can produce an autoimmune reaction with certain antigenic components of thyroid cells. Therefore, autoimmunity is one of the causes of hyperthyroidism.

(2) Heredity: Hyperthyroidism has a clear familial inheritance. Children whose mothers have hyperthyroidism are more susceptible to the pathogens of hyperthyroidism than those of other children. In addition, the incidence of hyperthyroidism is also high in patients with a family history of hyperthyroidism.

2. External factors

(1) Caused by infection: such as cold, pneumonia, tonsillitis, etc.

(2) Caused by trauma: such as car accidents, falls, etc.

(3) Mental stimulation factors: such as mental stress, anxiety, etc.

(4) Excessive fatigue: such as heavy physical labor, work fatigue, etc.

(5) Pregnancy: Early pregnancy may induce or aggravate hyperthyroidism.

(6) Excessive iodine intake: such as excessive intake of seafood.

What can't you eat if you have hyperthyroidism?

1. Foods high in iodine: Hyperthyroidism causes high thyroid hormone levels, and eating foods with excessive iodine content will stimulate excessive secretion of thyroid hormones, thereby inducing or aggravating hyperthyroidism symptoms. Therefore, patients with hyperthyroidism should control their intake of high-iodine foods. Foods high in iodine include: kelp, sea fish, jellyfish skin, seaweed, moss, sea cucumber, and dried shrimp.

2. Cold fruits: Hyperthyroidism patients should not only not eat some high-iodine foods, but also some cold fruits. Hyperthyroidism patients with qi and yin deficiency should not eat them, otherwise it will aggravate the symptoms. Cold fruits such as: watermelon, tomato, cantaloupe, kiwi, mango, banana, melon, grapefruit, persimmon, coconut, mulberry, etc.

3. Cabbage: Eating cabbage in large quantities for a long time will cause thyroid enlargement in normal people, let alone patients with hyperthyroidism. Because some studies have found that organic cyanide in cabbage can affect the oxidation of iodide, thereby affecting the synthesis of thyroid hormone and causing compensatory enlargement of the thyroid gland.

4. Potatoes: Eating potatoes frequently can cause goiter, just like cabbage. This is because potatoes contain cyanide sugar, which produces thiocyanate after eating, preventing the thyroid gland from absorbing iodine. Therefore, patients with hyperthyroidism should try to eat less potatoes.

5. Soybeans: Eating soybeans for a long time will hinder the reabsorption of thyroid hormones in the intestines, increase the loss of thyroid hormones in the feces, and then cause a relative deficiency of thyroid hormones. Therefore, patients with hyperthyroidism should try to eat less soy foods.

6. Radish: Hyperthyroidism patients who like to eat radish should also pay attention. Although radish contains a variety of nutrients and has the effect of clearing heat and eliminating phlegm for normal people, radish contains thiourea-type goitrogenic substances, which can cause goiter. Therefore, patients with hyperthyroidism may have their hyperthyroidism aggravated by eating radish.

7. Spicy food: Most patients cannot eat spicy food, and hyperthyroidism is no exception. The stimulation of food will accelerate the secretion of thyroid hormone. Spicy foods such as: tobacco, alcohol, chili peppers, peppercorns, raw garlic, raw onions, leeks, strong tea, coffee, etc.
