The key to successful IVF

The key to successful IVF

Although most people can achieve conception and childbearing through natural methods, there are still some people who have problems with infertility or sterility. In this case, certain medical means can be used to achieve the purpose of conception. For example, in vitro fertilization is a relatively mature assisted reproductive technology today. So, what is the key to successful IVF?

1. Age

The age of the woman is a key factor affecting the success of in vitro fertilization. The success rate is highest when the woman is between 25 and 35 years old. If she is over 35 years old, the success rate will drop significantly. Male age will also affect the success rate of IVF, but it is far less than the impact of female age on the success rate.

2. Causes of infertility

The success rate of in vitro fertilization will be low for female factors such as primary infertility, severe uterine malformation, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, or severe oligospermia, azoospermia, or the presence of a large number of deformed sperm. However, with the birth of the second-generation IVF technology, the impact of infertility caused by male semen on the success rate of IVF will be reduced.

3. Embryo quality

When there are problems with sperm or eggs, such as no fertilization or fertilization without cleavage, the embryo cannot be transplanted. High-quality embryos are an important condition for success. According to the six-level embryo grading method: fresh embryos of grades I to IV are available for transplantation, and grades I and II are excellent embryos. High-quality embryos are more likely to succeed, while poor-quality embryos have a high failure rate.

In vitro fertilization technology, blastocyst transfer (to improve the success rate of in vitro fertilization)

Blastocysts are embryos that are cultured to the 5th to 7th day after the egg and sperm combine. There are two types of cells in the blastocyst and a central fluid-filled cavity called the blastocoel. The surface cells surrounding the blastocyst cavity (beneath the shell) are called the trophoblast and will develop into the placenta. The concentrated cell mass in the inner layer will become the fetus.

Blastocyst culture is the final stage of embryo culture in vitro, which is usually formed 5-7 days after the egg is fertilized. This technology allows the embryos more time to grow before being transferred back into the mother's body, giving the laboratory more time to better determine which embryos have the greatest development potential, thereby radically improving the live birth rate of IVF.

4. Chromosomes

Some couples have normal chromosome variants. Although these couples with chromosomal problems can conceive through in vitro fertilization, the failure and miscarriage rates are higher.

5. Endometrial environment

The endometrium is the main place for embryo implantation. Endometrial damage, adenomyosis and other uterine diseases may cause the embryo to fail to implant and affect the success rate. At the same time, if the endometrium is thick enough, has abundant blood flow and good cell division, the embryo implantation rate will increase. On the contrary, if the endometrium is too thin, has insufficient blood flow and lacks hormone secretion, it will be difficult for the embryo to implant.

6. Mental state

The influence of psychological state is also extremely critical. The patient's psychological and mental state is a very important factor affecting the success or failure of IVF treatment. Excessive psychological tension can easily cause endocrine disorders, making it difficult for the embryo to implant. Therefore, infertile women should maintain mental balance and be optimistic and open-minded during the IVF treatment.
