They are a good choice for special groups such as pregnant women. However, to maximize the benefits of onions, you must be careful to avoid the taboos on onion consumption.

1. The meat is thicker in spring and summer, and spicier in autumn and winter. In spring and summer, fresh onions are available. The outer skin of this onion is thinner, while the flesh is thicker, more juicy, and less spicy. Onions grown in colder seasons are mostly stored, they are spicier, have thicker skins and less moisture.

2. Store in a dark place. When buying onions, look for ones that feel heavy in your hand, have a dry, firm skin, no scratches, and no odor (because onions release odor when they are scratched or bruised). The purchased onions should be placed in a cool, dry, dark and well-ventilated place. Never store onions in plastic bags - this will cause the onions, which are naturally long-lasting, to rot quickly.

3. Purple onions are spicy, while white onions are sweet. Common onions are divided into two types: purple skin and white skin. White onions have tender flesh, high moisture and sweetness. After long-term cooking, they have a golden color and rich sweetness. They are more suitable for fresh eating, baking or stewing. Purple onions have a slightly red flesh and a strong spicy taste, making them suitable for stir-frying or making lettuce salads. Purple onions are more nutritious.

4. Eating too much onion at one time will cause adverse reactions. It is recommended to eat 1/3 of an onion every day. Although eating onions raw will reduce the loss of nutrients, it is best for pregnant women to eat them cooked, and they taste much better than eating them raw.
