Can I have an abortion after four months?

Medically, the best time for abortion is between 35 and 49 days of pregnancy. When a woman is more than four months pregnant, the fetus is basically fully developed. If fetal malformations are found during the pregnancy checkup during this period, induced labor is necessary. Induced labor is different from abortion, which is more harmful to women's bodies. So, can abortion be performed when a woman is more than four months pregnant?

Abortion is a remedial measure for many female friends after contraceptive failure. Abortion is an early pregnancy termination surgery with very strict restrictions on pregnancy time. Therefore, pregnant women with too short or too long pregnancy time cannot have an abortion. Only women whose pregnancy time meets the requirements for abortion time can have an abortion. Generally speaking, you cannot have an abortion during the fourth month of pregnancy, because abortion is only suitable for women within 70 days of pregnancy, and four months of pregnancy has obviously exceeded the long pregnancy period for abortion. In fact, after female friends figured out whether they can have an abortion at four months of pregnancy, experts said that for female friends who are four months pregnant and still want to terminate the pregnancy, they can choose to achieve an abortion through induced abortion surgery. However, it is necessary for women who are four months pregnant to make good preparations before undergoing induced abortion. Sexual intercourse must be prohibited within one week before the operation. Patients undergoing painless induced abortion should avoid eating and drinking within 8 hours before the operation.

Commonly used methods of inducing labor in bed include water bag induction and levano induction. The precautions for different methods of induction of labor are described as follows:

1. Water bag induced labor. Infection and bleeding are the most common complications of induced labor. The body temperature and lochia should be closely monitored after the operation. If the body temperature exceeds 38 degrees and the lochia has a foul odor, antibiotics should be given in time to treat the infection. Excessive bleeding is mainly caused by poor uterine contractions or residual placenta and fetal membranes after placental abruption and miscarriage. It should be treated by strengthening uterine contractions or performing uterine cleaning in addition to preventing shock and treating the cause.

2. Induce labor with Levanol. The most common complication of rivanol induction of labor is retained membranes. Generally speaking, routine cleaning of the uterine cavity after surgery can avoid the occurrence of retained fetal membranes. In addition, a small number of patients have fever, which drops rapidly 24 hours after the fetus is expelled. If the body temperature continues to rise after 24 hours, other factors causing the fever should be ruled out. During mid-term induction of labor, the placenta has already formed, the fetus is larger, and the bones are harder, so the cervix needs to be fully dilated for delivery.
