How to sleep most comfortably after episiotomy

How to sleep most comfortably after episiotomy

Episiotomy is mainly performed on women who give birth naturally, because some women's vaginas are not strong enough to support the birth of a baby, so doctors will give women the option of episiotomy to make the baby come out better. After episiotomy, mothers will take some painkillers to reduce the pain of their wounds, and also pay attention to the recovery of the wounds. But for women who choose episiotomy, how can they sleep most comfortably at night?

How to sleep after episiotomy

It is best to sleep on your side after a normal delivery and an episiotomy, regardless of left or right. However, do not press on the side with the wound to reduce the flow of lochia into the perineal wound, so as to avoid contaminating the wound and being detrimental to the recovery of the episiotomy wound. In addition, it is best not to sleep on your back, because the bone joints become larger after delivery and the pelvis is larger than before. Lying on your side will prevent the bone joints from cracking, and it is more difficult for the pelvis to return to normal. However, if you want to breastfeed your baby yourself, do not press on your breasts when lying on your side.

How to sleep better after cesarean section

It is best to sleep on your side after a cesarean section, with an angle of about twenty to thirty degrees between the body and the bed board. It is best for the mother to put something like a blanket behind her to avoid straining the wound when moving. At the same time, it is best for mothers who have had a cesarean section to lie half-lying so that the blood accumulated in the cervix will flow to the posterior fornix to prevent it from flowing into the abdominal cavity.

How to care after episiotomy during normal delivery

Keep the wound clean and dry

Within 3 days after a normal delivery, the hospital will have more complete cleaning measures, and use more disinfectant washes to rinse the vulva. After discharge, the new mother needs to clean the vulva with clean water or washes every day, preferably twice a day, and keep the wound clean and dry.

Choose safe hygiene products

New mothers should choose safe sanitary products, change underwear and sanitary napkins in time, and keep the vulva clean and dry. In addition, the perineum should be rinsed with water after urination and defecation, and wiped with toilet paper, wiping from front to back to avoid bacterial infection.

Keep your bowels open

After a normal delivery and episiotomy, the new mother should keep her bowel movements clear to avoid wound splitting. It is best to sit when defecating. Pay attention to contracting the perineum and buttocks first, and then sit on the toilet. This can effectively avoid perineal wound splitting. When sitting, the center of gravity of the body should be tilted to the right, which can not only reduce the pain caused by pressure on the wound, but also prevent the epidermis from dislocating, and avoid falling or excessive abduction of the thighs which may cause the wound to split.

No heavy lifting

Do not lift heavy objects or do any physically strenuous housework or exercise within one month after delivery. Excessive physical activity too early may cause damage to the pelvic floor tissue, which is not conducive to the recovery of the episiotomy wound and may even cause uterine prolapse in old age. In severe cases, it may cause the wound to fail to heal for a long time.

Diet

New mothers after childbirth should eat more high-fiber foods, drink more water, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, drink more pig's trotter soup and other soups, and do not eat too much meat, spicy and stimulating foods, and foods that are difficult to digest, so as to avoid constipation and affect the healing of the perineal wound. If constipation occurs, you can eat more bananas to facilitate bowel movements. At the same time, pay attention to supplementing eggs, lean meat, etc. to promote wound repair.

Premature sexual life is strictly prohibited

New mothers who have had an episiotomy during a normal delivery should avoid postpartum sexual intercourse within 6 weeks after delivery. This is because the tearing wound during delivery will cause pain during postpartum sexual intercourse within 6 weeks after delivery. This is because the scar after suture is a harder fibrous tissue compared to the soft private parts of the new mother, so having sex too early will cause pain to the new mother. In addition, premature sexual activity can easily cause wound infection, which is not conducive to recovery.
