Postpartum heel pain

Postpartum heel pain

Heel pain after childbirth is related to poor postpartum recovery and lack of attention to postpartum conditioning. For example, catching a cold during sleep may lead to such symptoms. If this happens, you should be careful to avoid it becoming a serious problem. During the confinement period, you must pay attention to keeping warm and strengthen your diet. Let’s take a look at this aspect below.

Postpartum heel pain

During the confinement period, mothers suffer from deficiency of both Qi and blood and are easily affected by cold. Especially the feet, including the heels, once caught in the cold, will cause pain in the days that follow. Postpartum heel pain is a deficiency syndrome, not caused by trauma or bone spurs. This postpartum disease is mainly caused by kidney deficiency. Wearing high heels after childbirth and frequently wearing slippers or sandals barefoot are often important causes.

The kidney is the source of vital energy. The kidney controls reproduction and bones. According to the meridian circulation route, the heel belongs to the range of kidney meridian circulation. After childbirth, the kidney qi is weak, the Chong and Ren meridians are damaged, all the meridians are empty, and both qi and blood are deficient. If you often go barefoot with your heels exposed, or often wear high-heeled shoes with hard soles and great curvature, the already weak foot muscles after childbirth will not get rest, and the Qi and blood will not flow smoothly due to lack of warmth, which can easily lead to heel pain.

reason

Traditional Chinese medicine divides the causes and pathogenesis of heel pain into three categories:

1. Qi stagnation and blood stasis type: Various reasons lead to slow local blood flow, blood stasis, and blocked blood vessels, so that Qi and blood cannot flow smoothly and cause pain. The pain is localized, the pain is resistant to pressure, and walking is restricted.

2. Cold stagnation and blood stasis type: Qi and blood run slowly, and are attacked by cold evil. Cold causes stagnation and contraction, which results in blockage of meridians, stagnation of Qi and blood, and pain. The patient refuses to press on the pain, and likes heat and fears cold.

3. Liver and kidney deficiency type: The liver, kidney and their branches run around the heel. The liver governs the tendons and stores blood, while the kidney governs the bones, stores essence, and produces marrow. In the elderly, the liver and kidneys are deficient, the essence and blood are deficient, and the meridians are not filled. As a result, the tendons are not nourished, the bones are not controlled, and the bones atrophy and the tendons relax. Therefore, there is soreness, dull pain, and fatigue in the heels when standing or walking. The pain is relieved by pressing and the pain is relieved by touching.

Postpartum heel pain must be treated promptly, otherwise the disease will last a lifetime. As the saying goes, postpartum illness can be cured during the confinement period, but in most cases, only one child is born, so this is unrealistic.

Treatment

1. After giving birth, you must keep your feet warm, wear socks, and wear shoes that protect your toes and heels. Do not wear high heels or hard-soled shoes within three months after delivery. It is best to wear socks when wearing sandals or slippers to avoid catching a cold during the confinement period.

2. For the treatment of painful areas, Chinese medicine applied to the heel muscle can stimulate nerve endings, dilate blood vessels, promote local blood circulation, improve the nutrition of surrounding tissues, and achieve the purpose of reducing swelling, inflammation and analgesia. It can relieve heel pain safely, economically and quickly.

3. If you experience the above symptoms, please seek guidance from a Chinese medicine practitioner and use medication correctly. Traditional Chinese medicine for treating postpartum heel pain.

4. Physical therapy and heat therapy: In addition to going to the hospital for targeted physical therapy, you can soak your feet in hot water for about half an hour before going to bed at night, or place your feet on electric heaters, electric hand warmers, infrared lamps, home physical therapy devices and other equipment with heating functions. The warm effect can improve local microcirculation and is very helpful for relieving pain.
