How many days before the angiography can I not have sex?

Everyone must be familiar with contrast examination. This method is mainly used to check some gastrointestinal diseases. There are many symptoms in the human intestine, such as abdominal pain and diarrhea. Some patients will have inexplicable abdominal pain. In order to find out the cause, contrast examination can be used clinically. There are many precautions for this examination, and you must follow the doctor's instructions. So, can you not have sex a few days before the contrast examination?

How many days before the angiography can I not have sex?

Contrast examination is to inject high-density or low-density and harmless substances into the part that needs to be examined, and then form a clearer contrast under the irradiation of X-rays, so that more accurate judgment can be made through clearer images. Therefore, whether you are in the same room or not before angiography has no effect on the results. But there are other things to note.

Common contrast examinations are mainly upper gastrointestinal tract examinations. Upper gastrointestinal tract contrast examination is what we often hear about as barium meal. It refers to an examination method that uses barium sulfate as a contrast agent to show whether there are any abnormalities in the digestive tract under X-ray irradiation. There are also contrast examinations of other different parts, such as esophageal contrast examination, gastric contrast examination, and small intestine contrast examination.

There are different precautions for contrast examination of different parts of the body. When doing contrast examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract, you need to be careful not to take medicines containing iron, iodine, sodium, bismuth, and silver in the few days before the examination. Do not eat foods that are high in fiber or difficult to digest before the scan. The night before the angiography, you can eat foods such as soy milk, noodles, porridge, etc. Please pay special attention not to eat anything on the morning of the angiography day, including drinking water. Some people take laxatives strictly as required by the doctor the night before the examination to prepare their intestines, fast the next morning, and empty their bowels before the examination to ensure that there is no feces in the excrement before doing the barium enema. If you are doing hysterosalpingography, it is best to do it within a few days after the menstruation ends, because at this time the woman's endometrial environment is most suitable for examination, and the test results will be more accurate. If you do it before your period, it is too early, which can easily lead to infection. If the examination is done too late, the pressure may push the thickened endometrium toward the entrance of the fallopian tube and cause a misdiagnosis of blockage, affecting the results of the examination and easily leading to bleeding.

Do not take a bath in the tub and do not have sexual intercourse for the time being after the angiography. If there is vaginal bleeding after the angiography examination but no other problems occur, it is normal and there is no need to worry about it. If there are other abnormal conditions, please go to a regular hospital for treatment in time. It is best to take contraceptive measures for a few months after the contrast examination, because X-ray irradiation relies on radiation to do its work. The radiation may not be completely eliminated within a few months, and if you get pregnant at this time, it may have adverse effects on the baby. However, some women became pregnant after the angiography and no effects were found on the fetus.
