Is it normal not to get pregnant after six months of IUD removal?

IUD insertion is a long-term contraceptive method. Some couples who do not want children will adopt this once-and-for-all method of contraception, which is very cost-effective. However, with the opening of the second-child policy, many families began to consider having a second child. In this case, the IUD will be removed again, but they may encounter the phenomenon of long-term infertility after removing the IUD. So, is it normal not to get pregnant after six months of IUD removal? Let’s take a look below.

Through a large number of investigations and studies, it was found that the incidence of acute pelvic inflammatory disease in women wearing contraceptive rings is higher than that in women without rings, especially in young women who have not given birth, whose incidence of pelvic inflammatory disease is twice as high as that of older women who have given birth.

Survey data show that the incidence of pelvic inflammatory disease is highest in the first few months after IUD insertion. The incidence of tubal infertility caused by complications of the contraceptive ring, such as infection, pain and bleeding, is also significantly increased.

Analysis of the reasons may be insufficient aseptic operation, bacteria entering the uterus when the contraceptive ring is placed, or bacteria ascending along the nylon thread of the contraceptive ring and infecting the uterus, as well as increased menstrual volume, prolonged bleeding time, and disappearance of the cervical mucus plug after the ring is placed, which make it easy for bacteria to multiply and invade.

In addition, the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease caused by different types of contraceptive rings is not the same. Among them, the shield-shaped contraceptive device has the highest risk, followed by the metal single-ring IUD, and the copper intrauterine device has the lowest risk.

Therefore, if you want to use an IUD, it is ideal to choose a copper-containing IUD, because the copper-containing IUD has a natural antibacterial effect. When no incarceration is found, removing the IUD will not cause too much pain and is within an acceptable tolerance range. If you are still very afraid of pain, you can use the painless IUD removal method, which mainly involves intravenous anesthesia, so that it will not cause any pain.

What should you pay attention to before taking the ring?

1. Check thoroughly before removing the IUD. Before removing the ring, you should first undergo an X-ray fluoroscopy or B-ultrasound examination. For a ring with a tail thread, you can ask the doctor to dilate the vaginal opening to see if there is any nylon thread outside the uterine opening to confirm that the ring is in the uterine cavity before removing it.

2. Choose a good time to remove the IUD. The best time to remove the ring is within 3 to 7 days after the menstruation is over, which can reduce bleeding. The precautions before removing the IUD are very important, and all women must pay attention to them. If the woman is in menopause, she can have the IUD removed after 6 months of pregnancy and a thorough checkup. If the uterus is found to have atrophied, you need to take Progynova or Premarin for one week before the operation. For patients with tight cervix, take 0.6 mg of miso before surgery and then perform surgery 2 hours later.
