What should I do if my water breaks?

What should I do if my water breaks?

In daily life, many pregnant women are about to give birth after reaching the late stage of pregnancy. At this time, they must carefully protect their babies and their health. However, sometimes the amniotic fluid ruptures due to sudden accidents. For example, sudden force during sleep may cause the amniotic fluid to rupture, while singing or shouting in anger. So how should we deal with the rupture of amniotic fluid in pregnant women!

What are the symptoms of water breaking?

Normal amniotic fluid and urine look similar and are very clear. If the water breaks, it will flow out uncontrollably. However, vaginal secretions will increase in the later stages of pregnancy, which does not necessarily mean that water has broken. Generally, when your water breaks, you will feel a sudden stream of water flowing out of your vagina. When the fetal head descends and blocks the cervical opening, the flow of water will decrease, but some will still flow out as you move. It's best for you to go to the hospital and have a doctor check it out. If your water is indeed broken, you can't wait any longer and you must be hospitalized for delivery. If your water is broken for a long time and not treated, it can easily cause uterine infection. Some people's water breaks before their due date. Your due date is still 8 days away. The baby is full-term and can be delivered, so don't worry. It's best to check it out, maybe your water hasn't broken yet. As long as your water hasn't broken, you can continue to wait.

When premature rupture of membranes occurs, mothers often think that they have wet their underwear with urine and do not know that it is premature rupture of membranes. However, it is very important to identify premature rupture of membranes as soon as possible to prevent bacteria from ascending through the vagina to the uterus and infecting the fetus, and to avoid complications such as umbilical cord prolapse.

When a woman is not sure whether her amniotic fluid is rupturing prematurely or she is leaking urine, she can insert a specific chemical test paper into her vagina. If the amniotic fluid breaks prematurely, the amniotic fluid flowing in the vagina will turn the orange test paper into dark green. Take the test paper to the hospital and observe it under a microscope. You can see small fat lumps and fetal hair in the amniotic fluid, which means it is premature rupture of membranes.

Emergency treatment for premature rupture of membranes at home

Once premature rupture of membranes occurs, the mother and her family should not panic too much. It is easy to behave inappropriately when they are at a loss. To prevent the fetal umbilical cord from prolapse, let the mother lie down immediately and raise her buttocks.

The mother should place a clean sanitary napkin on her vulva, take care to keep it clean, and not take a bath again.

As long as the water breaks, the mother must go to the hospital immediately for treatment regardless of whether she has reached her due date or has uterine contractions. Even on the way to the hospital, you need to lie down with your hips elevated.

After the amniotic fluid breaks, you must go to the hospital for emergency examination and delivery. Generally speaking, the concentration of amniotic fluid begins to decrease. At this time, the whole body of the pregnant woman may be soaked, so pregnant women must be prepared. Don't let bacteria easily enter the vagina and cause infection after the amniotic fluid breaks.
