Can breast hyperplasia be treated with surgery?

Can breast hyperplasia be treated with surgery?

There are more and more patients with breast hyperplasia, most of them are middle-aged women, and some are girls who are breastfeeding. First of all, breast hyperplasia is not a disease that occurs suddenly. At the beginning, this disease is just mastitis, and it often occurs during breastfeeding. Because of the relationship with breastfeeding, it is not treated in time, which will eventually lead to worsening inflammation. Whether surgery can be performed still depends on these treatment misunderstandings.

7 treatment misunderstandings of breast hyperplasia

Myth 1: Breast hyperplasia cannot be cured and will naturally heal after childbirth or menopause

The non-systematic treatment of stopping medication as soon as breast pain improves after menstruation is the main reason why breast hyperplasia cannot be cured. From a positive perspective, timely systemic treatment is necessary to prevent the malignant transformation of the hyperplasia.

Myth 2: Biopsy can cause breast hyperplasia, malignant transformation and tumor metastasis

In fact, puncture biopsy is a fast, convenient and accurate method to determine the nature of the disease, and will not cause metastasis or malignant transformation of benign tumors. A survey of 100,000 cases in the UK did not find a single case of malignancy or metastasis caused by puncture biopsy. Moreover, once the nature of the disease, especially a tumor, is quickly determined, the subsequent treatment (surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy) will leave the tumor no chance to breathe, bringing survival benefits to the patient. On the contrary, untimely diagnosis, lack of understanding of the nature of the disease, and untimely treatment will lead to tumor metastasis and recurrence.

Myth 3: Fine needle biopsy can cause breast hyperplasia, malignant transformation and tumor metastasis

In fact, fine needle biopsy is an effective method to quickly, conveniently and accurately determine the nature of the disease. This method will not cause metastasis or malignant transformation of benign tumors.

Myth 4: Breast hyperplasia will not turn into cancer

Generally speaking, breast hyperplasia is a benign disease and patients do not need to be too nervous, but they cannot sit back and relax either. If the cause of breast hyperplasia is not eliminated, the mammary ducts and mammary epithelium may be stimulated for a long time, causing atypical hyperplasia, which will lead to breast cancer. Therefore, breast hyperplasia requires follow-up in the hospital.

Myth 5: Breast hyperplasia does not need to be treated and can heal on its own

There is a process for the transformation of normal breast epithelium to malignancy, namely, hyperplasia-atypical hyperplasia (precancerous lesions)-carcinoma in situ-invasive cancer. Clinically, cystic hyperplasia is considered atypical hyperplasia, and its histological changes are irreversible and are called precancerous lesions.

Myth 6: Breast hyperplasia can be cured by long-term oral medication

Fibrocystic breast disease is a group of chronic diseases or disease processes related to endocrine disorders. Drug treatment can be used to treat the swelling and pain caused by the growth. However, breast hyperplasia is also a psychogenic disease, which can be caused by many psychological illnesses such as anxiety and depression. Medication alone is useless if the psychological effects are not removed.

Myth 7: More mammograms, the better

Mammographic X-ray examination is the best way to detect early breast cancer, but there is no need to check repeatedly in a short period of time, especially during adolescence, pregnancy and lactation, when the breasts are sensitive to X-rays, and excessive exposure will increase the incidence of breast cancer.

Generally speaking, breast hyperplasia mostly occurs on one breast and on the outer edge, and it will not change with the arrival of menstruation, especially for adolescent women. If you feel that you have breast hyperplasia, this is a very common phenomenon. You just need to go to the hospital for a check-up and confirm that it is benign breast hyperplasia. No special treatment is needed. In order to let everyone better understand the treatment methods of breast hyperplasia and avoid misunderstandings, the editor has the following suggestions:

1. Hormone therapy

Since it is believed that excessive estrogen and endocrine imbalance play a role in the onset of this disease, people have tried to use exogenous hormones such as estrogen antagonists (tamoxifen) and androgens (danazol, methyltestosterone) to inhibit estrogen in order to intervene, correct, and adjust the imbalance. This method can soften and shrink the tumor and relieve pain in some patients, but long-term use may cause mild masculinization side effects such as oligomenorrhea, amenorrhea and hirsutism, as well as recurrence after discontinuation of the drug.

2. You should do 4 things every day.

First, do not eat meat, eggs, and milk containing hormones for three meals a day. The diet should include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, among which sweet potatoes are the best food.

Second, drink 3000 ml of water a day to detoxify and cleanse the intestines. It is worth reminding that do not drink purified water.

Third, get rid of all pessimistic and negative thoughts, and don’t say negative or pessimistic words.

Finally, always be grateful and express gratitude to others often.

3. Self-massage

Lie on your back on the bed, first cover the right breast with your left palm, with the nipple pointing to the left palm, then cover the right palm on the back of your left hand, lightly press the breast, rotate 36 circles clockwise, and then rotate 36 circles counterclockwise; then cover the left breast with your right hand, with the nipple pointing to the right palm, cover the left palm on the back of your right palm, rotate 36 circles clockwise, and then rotate 36 circles counterclockwise to complete one massage. The massage method before getting up in the morning is the same as that in the evening.

4. Surgical treatment

Hyperplasia itself has no indication for surgical treatment. The goal of surgery is to avoid missing adenocarcinoma.

5. Check in supine position.

Lie flat on the bed, with the nipple as the center, use your fingertips to massage the skin in a clockwise circular motion. When checking, apply even force, so that your fingers can touch the ribs.

6. Diuretics and sedatives

It mainly promotes the excretion of water and sodium, relieves premenstrual tension and water and sodium retention, and is more effective for those with obvious premenstrual breast pain.
