Effects of pregnancy on the kidneys

Effects of pregnancy on the kidneys

In life, many women will experience many changes in their bodies after becoming pregnant. Because for women, the progesterone in the body will rise rapidly during pregnancy. During this period, the endocrine system of women may be affected to a certain extent, so it will naturally affect the urinary system of women. At this time, women will experience frequent urination and urgency. So does pregnancy have an impact on the kidneys?

Does impaired renal function in pregnant women affect the fetus?

On the one hand, the decline in maternal kidney function affects the development of the fetus, which may cause miscarriage, stillbirth, etc. On the other hand, even if the delivery is successful, it may cause irreversible damage to the pregnant woman's kidneys. Therefore, female kidney disease patients should not force themselves to become pregnant.

So, how do you detect the symptoms of impaired kidney function? It is mainly divided into four stages:

In the first stage, the symptoms of renal insufficiency are not obvious. The diagnosis is based on the fact that although renal function has declined clinically, its ability to excrete metabolites and regulate water and electrolyte balance can still meet normal needs. There are no clinical symptoms of kidney disease, and renal function tests are also within the normal range or occasionally slightly higher.

The second stage is the renal insufficiency stage. Based on the extensive damage to the glomeruli, the kidneys have certain obstacles in excreting metabolic waste. Patients with renal insufficiency may experience anemia, fatigue, weight loss, and difficulty concentrating. However, it is often ignored. If there is dehydration, infection, bleeding, etc., obvious symptoms of kidney disease will soon appear.

The third stage is the middle stage of renal insufficiency. The kidney function has been severely damaged and cannot maintain the stability of the body's internal environment. Patients with renal insufficiency are prone to fatigue, weakness, inability to concentrate and other symptoms. They also have obvious anemia, increased nocturia, and significant increases in blood creatinine and urea nitrogen, and often have acidosis.

Stage 4: uremia or end-stage renal insufficiency. At this stage, glomerular damage has exceeded 95%, and there are serious clinical symptoms of kidney disease, such as severe nausea, vomiting, oliguria, edema, malignant hypertension, severe anemia, itchy skin, and a foul smell of urine in the mouth. These four stages are the basis for diagnosing renal insufficiency.

Scientific diagnosis of renal insufficiency. Patients with renal insufficiency should judge their own symptoms based on the above-mentioned kidney disease symptoms, and determine which stage they are in. They should have a more timely and accurate understanding of their kidney disease condition, be aware of the situation, and pay attention to it in a timely manner. This is the scientific method to diagnose renal insufficiency, but you still need to go to a regular kidney hospital for examination to reach a scientific conclusion.

How to provide daily care for patients with renal insufficiency?

1. Medications that may impair kidney function should be avoided.

2. Drink more water in daily life. If the patient has symptoms such as loss of appetite and nausea, he should go to the hospital for examination in time.

3. The protein intake in the daily diet should be limited, and patients can eat more potatoes, milk, eggs and other foods.

4. During the treatment process, you should maintain a good mentality, have a positive and optimistic attitude, and believe that you can overcome the disease.

5. You should get enough rest and reduce your work intensity. You should also avoid catching cold. Once a patient catches a cold, he or she should seek timely treatment.
