I took corpus luteum copper but my period didn't come yet

I don’t know if my female friends have heard of the drug progesterone. This drug is mainly developed to treat some diseases in the female body. Because progesterone is mainly developed from a substance called corpus luteum secreted by the female ovaries. So the drug progesterone has a stimulating effect on women's ovaries. If you don't have your period now, you will take progesterone, but why don't you have your period after taking progesterone?

The role of progesterone

Progesterone plays a significant role in women. However, some women still don’t quite understand the role of progesterone. Now let us introduce the pharmacological effects of progesterone.

① In the later stage of the menstrual cycle, it causes the glands in the uterine mucosa to grow, the uterus to become congested, and the endometrium to thicken, preparing for the implantation of the fertilized egg. After the fertilized egg is implanted, it produces the placenta, reduces the excitability of the pregnant uterus, inhibits its activity, and allows the fetus to grow safely.

② Working together with estrogen, it promotes full development of the breasts in preparation for milk production.

③ It closes the cervix, reduces and thickens the mucus, making it difficult for sperm to penetrate; in large doses, it has a negative feedback effect on the hypothalamus, inhibiting the secretion of pituitary gonadotropin and producing an ovulation-inhibiting effect. It is mainly used clinically for habitual abortion, dysmenorrhea, excessive menstrual bleeding or metrorrhagia, amenorrhea, etc.

Oral high doses are also used for conditions caused by progesterone deficiency, such as premenstrual syndrome, menstrual disorders caused by cessation of ovulation, benign breast disease, premenopause and menopause, etc. Vaginal administration may be an alternative to oral administration, especially for patients with liver disease.

How long does it take to get your period after taking progesterone?

Generally, menstruation will not occur until 3 to 7 days after stopping taking progesterone, so women need to wait patiently. If menstruation has not come after a certain period of time, it means that the estrogen level in the body is too low and estradiol must be added. If pregnancy is ruled out, it is generally necessary to stop taking the oral medication for 3 days before menstruation comes. If you have not had your period yet, you can switch to progesterone injections after another week. 40 mg of progesterone should be used at a time for 3 consecutive days. Menstruation will come 3 days after stopping the medication. If it still does not come, other causes should be investigated.

What to do if you don't have your period after taking progesterone

We have learned before that, generally, menstruation will come within 3 to 7 days after taking progesterone. Depending on the physical constitution and absorption problems of different people, some may come earlier or later. Some women who are not pregnant but have a thin endometrium take progesterone capsules and stop taking them for more than 10 days before their menstruation comes. So sometimes after taking the medicine, you need to observe patiently for a few days. If you still haven't had your period for a long time, and you don't know the details, it is recommended that female friends do not continue to abuse progesterone privately. Please go to the hospital for specific diagnosis and treatment under the guidance of a doctor! There may be the following reasons for not having your period:

1. If the menstruation is late or absent after taking progesterone, it means that the estrogen level in the body is insufficient. Further examination of the cause of estrogen deficiency is required, and B-ultrasound examination of the endometrium is required;

2. Ovarian, pituitary or thalamic causes can all lead to abnormal gonadal axis function, among which ovarian and thalamic causes are the most common;

3. Pelvic effusion may be related to the coming of menstruation. Pay attention to symptoms such as lower abdominal and back pain. You can also go to the hospital to ask a doctor to check during the non-menstrual period to find out whether there is pelvic inflammation.
