Types of uterine fibroid degeneration

Types of uterine fibroid degeneration

Tumors are a common type of cell mutation that occurs in the human body and pose a great threat to people's health. Uterine fibroids are a common problem in the female uterus and are very serious. Because uterine fibroids have a certain degree of degeneration, they are mainly divided into two types. One is benign degeneration, which does not have much impact on your body. There is also a malignant deformation, which can turn into cancer and pose a great threat to women's health.

When patients with uterine fibroids undergo B-ultrasound, they often see the term "uterine fibroid degeneration". Many parts of our body will undergo degeneration. Many friends will panic when they hear the word degeneration, fearing that their bodies will be seriously hurt. This is completely unnecessary. So what does uterine fibroid degeneration mean? Why does uterine fibroid degeneration occur? What are the consequences of degeneration? The following will answer them one by one.

We know that uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumor in the female reproductive organs and one of the most common tumors in the human body. When the fibroids grow to a certain size, if the fibroid tissue has blood supply disorders and tissue nutrition deficiency, a series of changes will occur. At this time, the fibroid tissue will undergo various degenerations. There are seven common types of degeneration, which are divided into two categories: benign and malignant.

1. Benign degeneration

There are six main types: hyaline degeneration, cystic degeneration, necrosis, infection, fatty degeneration and red degeneration.

1. Hyaline degeneration (glass-like degeneration): The deformed area is transparent and uniform, which is the most common type of degeneration.

2. Cystic change: It is caused by the further development of hyaline degeneration. The tissue in the degenerated area liquefies, forming a cystic cavity containing jelly-like or transparent liquid. The texture of the tumor becomes soft and cystic, which is also common.

3. Necrosis: It is caused by tumor pedicle torsion or severe infection. The central part of the tumor is far away from the blood supply and is very prone to necrosis.

4. Infection: It is more common when submucosal fibroids protrude into the vagina, blood supply is obstructed, necrosis occurs, and then infection occurs; in a small number of patients, the pelvic lesions are infected, affecting uterine fibroids.

5. Fatty degeneration: It often occurs in the late stage of hyaline degeneration or after necrosis. It may also form adipose tissue due to the metaplasia of the tumor stroma. The texture is soft and can be easily misdiagnosed as a sarcoma.

6. Red degeneration: It is a special type of degeneration, which is more common during pregnancy or postpartum period. The main symptoms are acute abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting. The fibroids appear flesh-red to the naked eye, resembling raw beef, hence the name.

2. Malignant Degeneration

That is sarcoma change. The incidence of sarcoma degeneration is very low. When malignant transformation occurs, it manifests as rapid enlargement of the tumor in a short period of time, accompanied by vaginal bleeding.

Warm reminder: Although uterine fibroids are a benign tumor, they can also cause great harm and inconvenience to women's health. What's more, although the chance of malignant degeneration is very small, some fibroids can still undergo malignant transformation. Therefore, once female friends suffer from uterine fibroids, they should not take it lightly. They should be admitted to the hospital for treatment immediately and follow the doctor's advice. At the same time, don’t be too anxious, relax and receive treatment with peace of mind.
