The offspring produced by embryo transplantation receive nutrition from the recipient and develop into a new individual, but their genetic material comes from their true parents, the donor animal and the male animal that mates with it. When the embryo is transferred into the uterus, the highest pregnancy success rate is during the blastocyst stage.

Soon after the embryo is removed, they can go into estrus, mate and be fertilized again, thus producing more offspring within a certain period of time. If gonadotropin is injected into female animals, they can be induced to release more eggs than naturally during one estrus period, and multiple embryos can be obtained for transplantation.
