The pros and cons of not breastfeeding after childbirth

The pros and cons of not breastfeeding after childbirth

Many women choose to breastfeed their children after giving birth, because breast milk has the highest nutritional value and no chemical substances are added to it. When the mother just gives birth, she may not have breast milk, and she will feed the child milk powder for a few days during this period. After the milk comes in, she will no longer feed the child milk powder, because everyone thinks that children fed with breast milk are smarter. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of not breastfeeding after giving birth?

Advantages of breastfeeding after childbirth:

1. Promote postpartum uterine contraction and reduce postpartum hemorrhage.

2. Reduces the mother's risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

3. Skin contact and eye contact between mother and baby are beneficial to the baby's early intellectual development.

4. It is a natural contraceptive.

5. The immune factors in colostrum help increase the baby's disease resistance.

6. Breast milk is best for babies to digest and absorb.

7. Helps reduce jaundice in newborns.

8. The temperature is suitable and economical.

Disadvantages of breastfeeding after childbirth

1. The time spent out doing errands after delivery should not exceed 2-3 hours.

2. Improper breast care may cause mastitis. In the worst case, breast abscess may need to be incised and drained (by surgery).

Breastfeeding after childbirth has an impact on breast shape. After weaning, the breasts will be smaller and looser than during or even before pregnancy.

Breastfeeding in work clothes

Mothers who work in medical or laboratory settings will cause trouble for their babies if they breastfeed while wearing work clothes, because work clothes are often covered with many invisible viruses, bacteria and other harmful substances. So no matter how busy a mother is, she should take off her work clothes (preferably her coat) and wash her hands before breastfeeding.

Feeding when angry

An experiment by American physiologist Irma showed that when people are angry, toxins can be produced in their bodies. These toxins can turn water purple and form precipitation. This suggests that mothers should not breastfeed when they are angry or just after getting angry, so as to prevent babies from inhaling milk containing "toxins" and becoming poisoned, which can cause sores in mild cases and illness in severe cases.

Breastfeeding after exercise

When people exercise, lactic acid is produced in the body. Lactic acid is retained in the blood, which changes the taste of breast milk and makes the baby dislike it. According to tests, moderate or above intensity exercise can produce this phenomenon. Therefore, mothers who shoulder the responsibility of breastfeeding should only engage in some mild exercise and rest for a while after exercise before breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding while lying down

The baby's stomach is in a horizontal position, and feeding while lying down can easily cause the baby to spit up milk. The correct way is for the mother to sit or sit in a middle position, put one foot on a small stool, hold the baby well, and use the thumb and index finger of the other hand to gently hold the nipple to feed, in order to prevent the nipple from blocking the baby's nostrils or causing the baby to choke and spit up milk due to too much milk.

Laughing while feeding

If the baby laughs because of teasing while feeding, the glottis in the throat may open and the inhaled milk may enter the trachea by mistake, causing choking in mild cases and aspiration pneumonia in severe cases.

Soap and lotion

In order to keep the breasts clean, it is necessary to wash them frequently, but soap should not be used for washing. This is because soap-like cleaning substances can remove the keratinized layer on the surface of the skin through mechanical and chemical effects, damaging its protective function and causing the skin surface to become "alkaline" and conducive to bacterial growth. Over time, this may lead to breast inflammation. To avoid this harm, it is best to wash with warm water.
