Belly massage during menstruation

Belly massage during menstruation

Massage is a common way to relax the body in my country. Of course, it can also help people solve some physical problems to a great extent. For example, during menstruation, female friends often have problems such as dysmenorrhea, too much or too little menstrual bleeding. During this period, as long as certain methods are used to massage the appropriate acupoints, these problems can be alleviated well. Here is some information about massage during menstruation.

1. Tap the lumbar sacral area

Massage method: Use both fists to gently tap your lower back and sacrum with moderate force at an even speed, alternating left and right, at a frequency of 100 times per minute, until you feel a slight warmth.

Efficacy: Traditional Chinese medicine calls menstruation "Tiangui", which is actually kidney essence. The waist is the home of the kidneys, so tapping the lumbar sacral area can nourish the kidneys and replenish essence, achieving the effect of relieving pain and regulating menstruation.

2. Massage Taichong acupoint

Massage method: Use the tip of your left thumb to rub the right Taichong point (located at the midpoint of the first metatarsal space on the dorsum of the foot) until you feel a sore and swollen feeling. After 1 minute, switch to using the tip of your right thumb to rub the left Taichong point for 1 minute.

Efficacy: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "when the Taichong meridian is strong, menstruation will come on time." Taichong is the most important acupoint on the liver meridian. It is also very effective for women with irregular menstruation. Women with dysmenorrhea often have varying degrees of liver depression and qi stagnation, which leads to pain due to the blockage. Rubbing this point has the effect of soothing the liver, promoting qi circulation and relieving pain.

3. Rub and rub the lower abdomen

Massage method: Place your hands together in the middle of your lower abdomen, and massage your abdomen slowly and gently, with a frequency of about 10 times per minute, until you feel a sense of heat in your lower abdomen. After 5 minutes of massage, use both hands to rub diagonally on both sides of your lower abdomen from back to front, toward the groin, until the heat penetrates.

Efficacy: The lower abdomen is where the uterus is located. Rubbing and massaging the lower abdomen can promote microcirculation in the lower abdomen, regulate menstruation and relieve pain.

4. Press and massage the uterus acupoint

Massage method: The uterus point is located in the lower abdomen, 4 inches below the navel and 3 inches away from the Zhongji. Stimulating the uterine point is a conditioning method that directly targets the female reproductive organs, and has the effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, regulating qi and relieving pain.

5. Press Zusanli

Massage method: Zusanli is located on the outer side of the front calf, 3 inches below the outer kneecap, and one horizontal finger width outside the anterior crest of the tibia. Use the tip of your thumb to press and rub the Zusanli point with a little force until you feel soreness and swelling. Dysmenorrhea caused by uterine cold can be treated with suspended moxibustion with moxa sticks.

Efficacy: The popular saying "Regularly pressing the Zusanli point is better than drinking chicken soup" is widely known, especially for weak women with insufficient qi and blood. Pressing the Zusanli point has the effect of replenishing qi and blood, warming the uterus, regulating menstruation and relieving pain.

It is worth noting that self-massage to prevent and treat dysmenorrhea should start about a week before menstruation. The purpose of treatment is to dredge the meridians and collaterals, guide blood downward, and make menstruation smooth. When menstruation comes, the massage should be stopped and treatment should be resumed in the next cycle.

If examination reveals that there are also organic diseases such as endometriosis, specialized treatment should also be received at the same time.
