Why does a woman have pain on the left side of her waist?

Low back pain is a common symptom among women. Different locations of lower back pain may indicate different diseases that a woman may suffer from. For example, if a woman has lower back pain on the left side, it may be caused by kidney stones, lumbar spine disease, reproductive tract disease, lumbar muscle strain, spondylitis, rheumatism, fatigue during pregnancy and childbirth, urinary tract infection and other problems. If you want to completely relieve the problem of lower back pain, you need to find out the specific cause first, and then prescribe the right medicine.

1. Kidney stones

Low back pain is also a more obvious symptom of kidney stones. Generally speaking, the pain of lower back pain caused by kidney stones is located higher up, above the waist and on both sides of the lumbar vertebrae. For patients, when they experience low back pain, they must go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time to determine whether the low back pain is caused by kidney stones, and do a good job of preventing kidney stones to avoid serious illness leading to kidney dysfunction.

2. Lumbar spine disease

It is more common in elderly women. As age increases, the symptoms of lumbar nerve compression will increase. Pseudospondylolisthesis caused by degenerative diseases is a common disease, which can easily cause lumbar spinal stenosis, compress the spinal cord and nerve roots, lead to low back pain and radiating pain in the lower limbs, and is often caused by vertebral collapse fractures due to osteoporosis. Osteophyte formation in the elderly can cause spinal stiffness and can also lead to persistent low back pain.

3. Reproductive diseases

The incidence of inflammation of the female reproductive organs is relatively high, such as chronic adnexitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, pelvic connective tissue inflammation, salpingitis, etc. These inflammations are prone to be complicated by low back pain. Patients with pelvic tumors such as uterine fibroids, cervical cancer, and ovarian cysts may experience low back pain due to tumor compression of nerves or infiltration of cancer cells into the pelvic connective tissue. In addition, abnormal uterine position such as anteversion, retroflexion, and prolapse can also cause low back pain.

4. Lumbar muscle strain

People who work in a standing position for a long time, stand continuously, or often carry heavy objects, due to continuous standing, the stretching ability of the lumbar tendons and ligaments is weakened, and excessive lactic acid can accumulate locally, inhibiting the normal metabolism of the lumbar muscles. The waist is overloaded, scoliosis is prone to occur, and it can also cause low back pain caused by lumbar muscle strain. Abnormal standing or sitting postures, and wearing a too tight waistband can also cause low back pain.

5. Spondylitis

After the onset of ankylosing spondylitis, patients will gradually experience pain and/or stiffness in the buttocks, hips, lower back and/or back, especially when lying down for a long time (at night) or sitting for a long time, with difficulty turning over. There is obvious stiffness in the waist when getting up in the morning or standing up after sitting for a long time, but the pain will be relieved after activity. Some patients feel severe pain in the buttocks and hips, which occasionally radiates to the surrounding areas. The harm of ankylosing spondylitis is quite great. If not treated in time, it may even cause spinal stiffness, deformity, or even disability, affecting normal work and life. Therefore, the principle of early detection and early treatment must be followed.

6. Rheumatism and cold

Women often suffer from low back pain due to being attacked by wind, dampness and cold during menstruation, delivery and postpartum period, which causes bone spurs in the spine. If the waist has been sprained, it may develop into a herniated disc, causing severe back pain and even affecting the flexion, extension and rotation of the spine.

7. Fatigue during pregnancy and childbirth

During pregnancy, as the fetus grows, the ligaments of the pregnant woman's lumbar and pelvic joints relax. At the same time, the weight of the uterus also increases with the growth of fetal age, causing the body's center of gravity to move forward. In order to maintain body balance, the waist is often straightened forward. If you do not pay attention to rest, it is easy to cause back pain. During pregnancy, the fetus needs sufficient nutrients such as calcium and phosphorus for development. If the dietary intake is insufficient, it can cause osteoporosis and decalcification in pregnant women, and can also cause low back pain. Excessive postpartum bleeding, premature labor, excessive fatigue, and cold can also cause low back pain.

8. Urinary tract infection

Low back pain is mostly caused by acute or chronic pyelonephritis, which manifests as distension and pain in the lower back and radiates along the ureter to the perineum in severe cases. In addition to urinary tract infections, urinary tract stones, tuberculosis and other diseases can also cause low back pain.
