Bleeding during sexual intercourse

Bleeding during sexual intercourse

We all know that sexual behavior is inevitable in the life of a couple, and many couples particularly like to have sex in life, because when both men and women reach orgasm at the same time, the pleasure is indescribable, and sexual behavior is also an indispensable process for men and women to pass on their genes. But some couples will experience bleeding during sexual intercourse. What's going on?

Bleeding during sexual intercourse is a common manifestation of certain gynecological diseases. Cervical cancer - Bleeding during sexual intercourse is often a dangerous sign of early cervical cancer. The amount of bleeding is not much and the color is bright red. However, if it is early-stage cervical cancer, the amount of bleeding may increase, and even blood clots may flow out. This is because the cancerous cervical cell tissue has become eroded and brittle, and the affected area has a good blood supply, so when the cervix is directly hit, it will rupture and cause bleeding.

Cervical polyps - Cervical polyps are mostly tongue-shaped, about the size of a sunflower seed, often protruding outside the cervical opening, singly or multiplely, soft in texture, and bright red in color. The top of the polyp has loose tissue and rich blood vessels. When some polyps become edematous, gangrenous, and infected, their appearance may be similar to that of early cervical cancer and may easily cause bleeding during sexual intercourse. Cervical polyps are generally benign lesions and rarely become malignant. Therefore, the diagnosis and treatment of cervical polyps cannot be ignored.

Cervical erosion - Cervical erosion is the most common manifestation of chronic cervicitis. The cells in the eroded part of the cervix are very easy to fall off and become thinner, so some cervical erosions may also cause bleeding during sexual intercourse, especially in patients with moderate and severe cervical erosion. Modern medical research has shown that the occurrence of cervical cancer is closely related to cervical erosion. Therefore, necessary treatment measures should be taken for cervical erosion to prevent cervical cancer.

Vaginitis - Common types include Trichomonas vaginitis and candidal vaginitis. Due to the invasion of pathogens such as Trichomonas or fungi on the vaginal wall and cervical tissue, it manifests as severe edema. The vaginal wall of trichomoniasis may have scattered bleeding spots or strawberry-shaped protrusions, while the vaginal wall of candidal vaginitis may be erosive or have superficial ulcers. In addition, elderly women after menopause are prone to bacterial infection and senile vaginitis, which causes edema and scattered small bleeding spots on the vaginal wall and cervical surface, or ulcer formation. This type of bleeding during sexual intercourse is often accompanied by pain during sexual intercourse.

Vaginal wall abrasions - Elderly women after menopause may experience vaginal atrophy, disappearance of wrinkles and lack of elasticity, vaginal dryness, etc. If lubricant is not used during sexual intercourse, it may cause bleeding and pain during intercourse. Submucosal uterine fibroids - Submucosal fibroids originally grow in the uterine cavity. Due to the contraction of the uterus, the fibroid pedicle is gradually elongated and eventually prolapses from the cervical opening into the vagina. The thin and long lesions provide poor blood supply to the fibroids, making them susceptible to infection. When sexual intercourse occurs, the fibroids are impacted, aggravating the injury and causing bleeding. Other causes of bleeding - such as abnormal menstruation, thinking that the menstruation is over, and having sexual intercourse too early, which causes the uterus to contract under sexual stimulation, and the blood remaining in the uterine cavity is discharged from the vagina. In addition, a small number of women experience bleeding during ovulation. For this type of bleeding, if a gynecological examination shows no abnormalities in the vagina and cervix, the above possibilities should be considered.

In short, almost anyone who experiences bleeding during sexual intercourse can be considered to have a gynecological disease. Therefore, women with this symptom are advised to cooperate honestly with their doctors and work together to nip the disease in the bud.
