What to do if you get urticaria during the confinement period

In life, we often encounter that many new mothers will develop many small red spots on their bodies after giving birth, which are extremely itchy and painful. At first, people thought that this might be because the weather was too hot and the mother was covered up, causing prickly heat. But it was only when I went to the hospital that I found out that I had "postpartum urticaria"! It can be seen that we have to be more careful with postpartum women, because most postpartum women are the source of breast milk, so we have to be very careful. So let’s find out what we should do if we get urticaria during the confinement period!

1. Postpartum urticaria

After giving birth, some women suddenly develop many rashes on their bodies for no apparent reason. The rashes are extremely itchy and painful, seriously affecting their normal life and health. This is postpartum urticaria, a common skin allergic disease.

2. Causes of postpartum urticaria

It is generally believed that allergic reactions and autonomic nervous system dysfunction are the main causes of postpartum urticaria; according to the traditional Chinese medical viewpoint, urticaria can be regarded as caused by the invasion of wind evil into the human body. If not effectively treated, the disease will worsen and may even develop into chronic urticaria.

Specifically, there are several reasons for the occurrence of urticaria:

1. Decreased immunity

The immune system of postpartum women may be relatively weak, which will affect many normal functions of the body and seriously inadequate defense against external pathogenic microorganisms. This is one of the important causes of urticaria.

2. Dampness and heat in the body

Pregnant women tend to have dryness and heat in their bodies. During delivery, the damp heat in the body will erupt, and the most direct reaction on the body surface is urticaria.

3. Food factors

Food has a great influence on the occurrence of urticaria. After childbirth, some women, in order to replenish nutrition as quickly as possible, must have a large amount of meat and very few vegetables and fruits at every meal. Many meat dishes contain a large amount of allergens, such as chicken and certain fish, which are one of the main causes of postpartum urticaria in women.

4. Emotional influence

In addition to the huge physical changes, the role of emotions cannot be underestimated. Such as the tension and anticipation before delivery, the various discomforts of being a first-time mother, etc. Women's mood swings, mental disorders, depression and repression are also one of the causes of urticaria.

3. Symptoms of postpartum urticaria

1. Wind-heat type urticaria

This is caused by heat evil invading the human body. Most of them are acute attacks. The disease occurs suddenly and progresses rapidly. Red wheals appear on the skin, with severe burning sensation and unbearable itching. Sometimes, symptoms such as fever, fear of cold, sore throat, unbearable thirst, irritability, chest tightness, nausea, and abdominal pain may also occur. In addition, the tongue coating is mostly thin, white or light yellow, and the pulse is light and fast.

2. Wind-cold urticaria

This is caused by external cold air invading the human body. Pink or whitish wheals may appear on the skin and are particularly severe in cold temperatures. There are generally no obvious symptoms. Sometimes there may be pain in the head or body, but no thirst. In addition, the tongue surface is very pale, the tongue coating is pale, and the pulse is light and tight.

3. Blood deficiency and wind-induced type

The disease is caused by insufficient blood and qi, and being affected by wind evil. The disease often recurs and does not heal for a long time. The disease is particularly severe in the afternoon and early morning hours. The patient becomes irritable, restless, has hot hands and feet, and is thirsty but does not want to drink water. In addition, the tongue is red, but there is no tongue coating or only a small amount of thin tongue coating; the pulse is deep and long.

4. Deficiency of both heart and spleen

His body was frail, his face was pale, and his lips were white. Frequent dreams and difficulty falling asleep, poor memory, palpitations and excessive sweating, and a light rash that is very itchy. Common in psychogenic urticaria or artificial urticaria.
