Normal leucorrhea should be milky white or colorless and transparent, with a slightly fishy smell or no smell; its secretion amount and texture are affected by the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body, and vary periodically with the menstrual cycle, with varying amounts, textures and thicknesses. Generally, the amount of leucorrhea is less after the menstrual period; before ovulation, due to the increase in estrogen levels in the body, the epithelial cells of the cervical glands are stimulated to proliferate, the secretion of cervical mucus increases, and the sodium chloride content in the mucus increases, which can absorb more water, causing the leucorrhea to increase during ovulation, and the texture is thin, clear in color, and looks like egg white, which can be stretched into long threads; after ovulation, estrogen levels gradually decrease, progesterone levels increase, the secretion of cervical mucus is inhibited, and the sodium chloride content in the mucus also decreases, making the leucorrhea at this time thick, milky white, with poor ductility, and easy to break when drawn. Sensitivity of leucorrhea It varies greatly from person to person. Some women have a lot of leucorrhea but do not feel any discomfort, while others, although their reproductive tract secretions are normal or only slightly increased, often have a wet feeling in the vulva and feel confused and uncomfortable, so they are eager to seek treatment. This is related to one's personality, social status and cultural level. In fact, all healthy women under the influence of estrogen have reproductive tract discharge, commonly known as leucorrhea, which should not be understood as a pathology. Among patients who complain of increased leucorrhea, about 10% have physiological leucorrhea, or normal cervical fluid, or normal exfoliation of vaginal epithelial cells. Therefore, for patients with increased leucorrhea, we should first distinguish whether it is physiological or pathological leucorrhea. Observe leucorrhea to determine ovulation period In the first half of the menstrual cycle, that is, before ovulation, the ovaries mainly secrete estrogen, and the secretion amount gradually increases. Under its action, the amount of cervical mucus also gradually increases, and becomes thinner and more translucent. The lower body, which has been relatively dry after menstruation, will gradually become moist. When ovulation occurs, estrogen secretion reaches its peak, the amount of cervical mucus is the largest, and its toughness is the greatest. Clear mucus often flows out in strips that can sometimes be very long. At this time, the woman's lower body is the wettest. When the above-mentioned strip-like leucorrhea flows out, there will be a greasy feeling. It is different from the increased leucorrhea caused by vaginitis and cervical erosion. The former is clear and transparent, without any odor, of which more than 95% is water; the latter is yellow and thick or cheese-like, and makes the vulva itchy and uncomfortable, and often has a bad smell. During ovulation, the cervical mucus is secreted in large quantities for about 2 to 3 days, which is also the time when the lower body feels the most moist. |
