What are the causes of menstrual headaches

Women are prone to headaches during their menstrual period, which is related to changes in hormone secretion. At this time, the body's metabolic capacity is relatively strong, which can easily cause blood to flow upward. Not only can it cause headaches, it can even cause nose bleeding. At this time, you must emphasize nutrition, get more rest, pay attention to keeping warm, and strengthen diet conditioning.

1. Hormone fluctuations.

Women's menstrual headaches may be caused by the fact that estrogen (including estradiol) can stimulate the secretion of prolactin, which in turn directly or indirectly stimulates the secretion of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins act on blood vessels, causing vascular contraction and dilation. This change also shows cyclical changes due to the influence of estrogen, thereby triggering headache attacks.

2. Blood flows upward.

Generally speaking, when women are menstruating, most of the blood flows downward, but for a small number of women, the blood circulation speeds up and the blood flows upward. These women sometimes experience nosebleeds, headaches, etc.

3. Menstrual headache is related to changes in serum estradiol concentration.

Before and after menstruation, the concentration of estradiol in serum decreases, causing changes in vascular tension and causing headaches in some patients who are sensitive to this. After menstruation, the serum estradiol concentration returns to normal and the patient's headache may be relieved or disappear.

4. Mental fatigue, lack of exercise, and lack of sleep

There are even some women who, because of not eating for a long time to lose weight, may cause endocrine disorders and then cause premenstrual syndrome.

5. Endocrine disorders.

There are many causes of menstrual migraine. Women's menstrual headaches are mainly caused by endocrine disorders, ovulation disorders, endometriosis or inflammation, which fall into the category of "menstrual headaches" in traditional Chinese medicine.
