What foods are taboo for pregnant women

Pregnancy is a very happy thing, but for the healthy development of the fetus, there are also many taboos that pregnant women need to pay attention to. During pregnancy, women must take many measures to protect the fetus, especially some food taboos, and avoid eating high-sugar foods during pregnancy.

1. Avoid high-sugar diet

Pregnant women in the high blood sugar group were 3 times, 7 times, and 2 times more likely to give birth to a high-birth-weight fetus, had congenital malformations, develop pregnancy-induced hypertension, or require a cesarean section than those in the low blood sugar group, respectively. On the other hand, the renal sugar excretion function of pregnant women may be reduced to varying degrees during pregnancy. If the blood sugar is too high, it will increase the burden on the pregnant woman's kidneys and is not conducive to pregnancy care.

2. Avoid high-protein diet

Medical research shows that insufficient protein supply can easily lead to physical weakness in pregnant women, slow fetal growth, delayed postpartum recovery, and scarce milk secretion. Therefore, pregnant women's daily protein requirement should reach 90-100 grams. At the same time, excessive protein intake can not only increase the nitrogen content in the blood, but also easily lead to increased cholesterol, increasing the burden on the kidney's glomerular filtration function. Some scholars also believe that excessive accumulation of protein in the connective tissue of the human body can cause degeneration of tissues and organs, making people more susceptible to cancer.

3. Avoid acidic foods

Pregnant women may experience early pregnancy symptoms such as picky eating, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting in the early stages of pregnancy. Many people prefer acidic diets. However, scientists in the Federal Republic of Germany have found that if the mother consumes a large amount of acidic drugs or other acidic substances in the early stages of pregnancy, it may affect the normal division, proliferation, development and growth of embryonic cells, and easily induce genetic mutations, leading to fetal malformations. As the fetus matures, the acidity and alkalinity in its tissue cells gradually approach that of the mother, and the degree of impact will gradually decrease. Therefore, pregnant women should not use too much acidic drugs or eat too much acidic diet in the early stages of pregnancy.

4. Avoid high calcium diet

Pregnant women who blindly consume high-calcium diets, such as taking large amounts of calcium tablets, vitamin D, etc., will do more harm than good to the fetus. Nutritionists believe that if pregnant women take too much calcium supplements, the fetus may suffer from hypercalcemia. After birth, the child will have premature closure of the fontanelle, widening and protruding jawbone, forward tilted nose, and narrowing of the aorta, which is not conducive to the child's growth and development, and will also damage the appearance of future generations. Generally speaking, pregnant women need 800 mg of calcium per day in the early stages of pregnancy, which can be increased to 1,100 mg in the later stages. This does not require special supplements, as long as a reasonable intake from daily dairy products, fish, meat, eggs and other foods is enough.
