What should I do if I have a high risk of NTD in Down's syndrome screening?

The high risk of NTD in Down syndrome screening is one of the results of screening, but we cannot directly judge that the child has neural tube defects based on this high risk. It is just that the possibility is higher, so we must follow the doctor's examination and guidance.

1. NTD is an indicator in Down syndrome screening. Down syndrome screening is a detection method that extracts serum from pregnant women, tests the concentration of alpha-fetoprotein and chorionic gonadotropin in the maternal serum, and calculates the risk factor of giving birth to a child with Down syndrome based on the pregnant woman's due date, age, weight and gestational age at the time of blood collection.

2. NTD (Neural tube defects, NTD) Neural tube defect refers to the prenatal screening item.

This deformity can be seen from the outside, there is no problem inside the cells. Therefore, amniocentesis is not necessary. This is an appearance deformity. If there is a real deformity, it can be seen under B-ultrasound. This takes 18 to 20 weeks to do.

3. High risk is just a numerical value, and there is no problem with the current B-ultrasound examination. So there is definitely no need for you to induce labor now. Wait until the ultrasound results come out at 23 weeks. Being high risk now does not mean that it will definitely happen in the future. It just means that it may happen, but it may not happen. As for whether to have an abortion at that time, we have to wait until then to decide.
