Embarrassing question: What causes vaginal relaxation and vaginal flatulence?

Many women's vaginas become loose after giving birth, and they also experience symptoms of vaginal gas discharge, especially during sexual intercourse, when a "pop" sound comes out of the vagina, which is very embarrassing. Many women don’t know what’s going on?

What is vaginal blowing?

Vaginal flatulence refers to the discharge or expulsion of gas from the vagina under various circumstances, including during or after sexual intercourse, stretching or exercise. The sound is similar to the passing of gas from the intestines, but since no excrement is involved, there is no unpleasant odor.

"Vaginal flatulence" often occurs in women who have given birth. Whether it is childbirth, frequent sexual intercourse or inflammation, it may cause the elasticity of the vaginal muscles to deteriorate, resulting in gaps between the vaginal walls that should be tightly fitted together. The gas inside will rush out through the tightly closed vaginal opening, making a "pop" sound, which is called "vaginal flatulence". A normal vagina is tightly fitted together, and the vaginal opening is like two tightly closed doors. However, during the delivery process, the fetus passes through the birth canal, causing the vagina to relax due to excessive expansion, or even lose its elasticity. As a result, the front and back walls of the vagina cannot fit tightly together, and some even form cavities, which can easily lead to "vaginal flatulence".

Three explanations for vaginal flatulence during sexual intercourse

The in and out movement of the penis during sexual intercourse can completely press air into or out of the vagina. When inserted, the gas is pressed into the deepest dome of the vagina. When the thrusts are intense and the insertion is deep, the gas pressure becomes greater and greater. When it reaches a certain limit, the gas will naturally try to escape, forming the so-called vaginal flatulence. The sound can come from slapping against the vaginal walls, like you are sitting on an air mattress that makes the sound. Generally speaking, the vaginal wall and the male genitals fit very tightly together, so a lot of gas will not accumulate in the vaginal vault. There are several situations that can cause gas to enter the vagina, such as multiparous women who have given birth multiple times vaginally, severely imbalanced penis-vagina ratios, very loose vaginal openings, prolapsed or defective vaginal vaults, and disruption of the normal anatomical relationship of the vaginal wall, which can easily lead to a large amount of gas flowing into the vagina.

In addition, normal physiological changes in the vagina during sexual intercourse can easily cause such problems. When sexually excited, the labia swells and the vaginal opening cannot close. The penis and vaginal opening cannot fit tightly, and air can easily enter. The vagina also stretches when sexually excited because the outer end of the vagina tightens and the inner 2/3 expands. During the entire process of sexual excitement, the congestion and swelling of the vaginal wall also reduces its compliance, making the fit with the penis less tight, which also creates an opportunity for air to enter and an ideal environmental condition.

Changes in body position during sexual intercourse may contribute to vaginal flatulence because the penis may have to be withdrawn and reinserted. The longer this process is, the greater the likelihood that air will enter. Especially after a woman is fully excited, the vagina has undergone the above-mentioned physiological changes. Then, at the beginning of sexual intercourse, the close fit between the penis and the vagina will no longer exist, and the withdrawal and reinsertion of the penis will inevitably accelerate and intensify the entry of air. At the same time, different body positions will also affect the size of the vaginal vault, and certain body positions may be more prone to air entry.

Muscle exercises to prevent vaginal flatulence

What should you do if vaginal gas discharge occurs? If it is a physiological phenomenon, it can be corrected by exercising the contraction force of the vaginal muscles. The method is to do contraction and relaxation exercises of the vaginal and anal muscles, that is, lift the anus and contract the vagina when inhaling, and relax when exhaling. Twice a day, 20 minutes each time. For women who make noises during intercourse, in addition to doing the above exercises, they should go to the toilet before having sex and forcefully expel the air from the vagina. If there is a recto-vaginal fistula or a third-degree perineal tear, and the noise during intercourse is very loud, even affecting urination and defecation, you can undergo anterior and posterior vaginal wall plastic surgery. For those with vaginitis, the flatulence phenomenon will disappear naturally after antibacterial treatment. In short, if it is caused by non-physiological conditions, you must go to the hospital for examination so that you can receive timely treatment.

If you find vaginal gas discharge accompanied by increased vaginal discharge, vulvar itching or vaginal discomfort, you should see a doctor promptly; but if it is only mild gas discharge and no other discomfort, you only need to pay attention to the cleanliness of the vulva, wear loose, cotton underwear, and drink more water and eat more vegetables to relieve the symptoms.
