What to do if a pregnant woman has swollen and painful breasts

Breast pain is quite common in lactating women, which is mostly caused by a sudden increase in blood circulation in the breasts. During breastfeeding, not only does the breast hurt, but severe swelling may also occur. Maternal breast discomfort seriously affects breastfeeding and milk production during lactation. If it is not improved, it is prone to breast diseases. Next, let’s take a look at how to solve the problem of breast swelling and pain during lactation.

In order to prevent or reduce breast swelling during lactation, it is recommended to do some breast care, and this care should start on the second day after delivery. The specific process can be carried out according to the following steps:

1. Preparation: a large towel, two small towels, two pieces of clean gauze, a piece of soap, talcum powder, a bottle of glycerin, hot water and a clean bra.

After everything is ready, close the doors and windows, wash your hands first, fill the basin with hot water (temperature at 41-43 degrees), and put in a towel. Then sit down, take off your shirt, and cover your chest with a large towel.

2. Clean the breasts: Expose the right side of the chest, soak a small towel in water, apply soap, and scrub the breast in a clockwise direction, gradually scrubbing the entire breast from the nipple to the root. Be careful to be gentle. Then use a clean, damp towel to wipe off the soap and dry the breasts with a large towel. Then scrub the left breast in the same way.

3. Hot compress on breasts: Replace the basin with clean hot water, the water temperature should be 50-60 degrees, and the water temperature can be increased or decreased according to the temperature.

Expose your breasts and cover them with a large towel 2-3 inches below the breasts. Cover both breasts with a warm towel and keep the water warm. It is best to use two towels alternately, changing the hot towel every 1-2 minutes, and do this for 8-10 minutes. Pay attention to your skin's reaction to avoid burns, then dry it with a towel and cover it with a large towel.

The above are the methods for lactating mothers to solve breast pain, which are relatively effective. Hot compress and massage, in particular, are the most effective in relieving breast pain during lactation. It is best not to wear underwear during breastfeeding, or it is better to wear underwear specially made for breastfeeding, which will make the breasts healthier.
