What to do if you have dry eyes after giving birth

We often say that eyes are the windows to the soul, and eye discomfort is very painful. Many mothers report that they experience dry eyes after giving birth. However, many mothers do not go to the hospital for treatment in time due to being busy or other reasons. If the eye discomfort lasts for a long time, they will worry whether they have a serious illness. What should I do if I have dry eyes after giving birth? We must first understand the cause of dry eyes so that we can treat it accordingly.

There are many reasons for dry eyes, pain and itching, including environmental factors, organic eye diseases, lack of certain substances in the body, etc. The most common clinical cause is vitamin A deficiency. The incidence of vitamin A deficiency is quite high, and it is even endemic in some areas of Africa and Asia. Some diseases such as measles, schistosomiasis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, cholecystitis, cirrhosis, pancreatitis, chronic diarrhea and other chronic or wasting diseases can cause vitamin A deficiency. The earliest symptom of vitamin A deficiency is a decrease in dark adaptation ability, which can cause night blindness in severe cases; it can cause dry eye disease, dry eyes, pain and itching, etc., and further development can lead to blindness.

In addition, it can also cause dryness, hyperplasia, keratinization of unnecessary epithelial tissues of the body, decreased appetite, and susceptibility to infection. The diagnosis of vitamin A deficiency mainly relies on the determination of serum vitamin A levels and dark adaptation ability. The best dietary sources of vitamin A are various animal livers, cod liver oil, whole milk, etc. Plant foods are mainly dark green or yellow-green foods such as broccoli, spinach, carrots, etc., but excessive intake of vitamin A can also cause poisoning. The recommended intake for adults is 3000 micrograms.

If you feel dry eyes after giving birth, you must go to the hospital to consult a doctor in time and do some relevant auxiliary examinations to determine the cause. If it is caused by a lack of vitamin A, it can be slowly adjusted through food. If it is caused by other reasons, symptomatic treatment can be provided in time. But it is important to be careful not to seek medical treatment without proper treatment.
