Can I eat potato chips during early pregnancy?

Pregnancy is the biggest thing in our life. Having children is also something we are happy about. We are also proud of it. If we can give birth to a healthy baby, we will have no regrets. However, if we want to give birth to a healthy baby, we must take relevant care and preventive measures during pregnancy. There are some foods that cannot be eaten. Many pregnant women feel bored and eat snacks. Potato chips are the most common snack. Many people like to eat them. So, can we eat potato chips in the early stages of pregnancy?

The bodies of pregnant women are more sensitive during pregnancy, and their requirements for food are relatively high. So sometimes if they eat the wrong foods, they may experience vomiting or diarrhea. Therefore, it is not recommended for pregnant women to eat potato chips.

Potato chips are snacks made from potatoes (commonly known as potatoes in Hong Kong). The preparation method is to cut the potatoes into thin slices, then fry or bake them until crispy and season them. In addition to the simplest seasoning of salt, the different flavors of potato chips available on the market are also seasoned with MSG and different spices. Potato chips are an important part of the snack food market in many countries.

Nutritional Information

Potatoes, the main raw material of potato chips, are rich in B vitamins such as vitamin B1, B2, B6 and pantothenic acid, as well as a large amount of high-quality cellulose. They also contain nutrients such as trace elements, amino acids, protein, fat and high-quality starch. However, some B vitamins are not thermally stable at high temperatures and are easily destroyed during cooking.

Common potato chips are made by slicing potatoes and processing them with oil at high temperatures, and generally contain 30%-40% fat. Depending on the taste, some brands of potato chips contain higher levels of salt.

The health effects of potato chips

The oil content of potato chips is usually around 30%, making them a high-fat and high-salt food. Like other fried foods, long-term consumption is not good for your health. At the same time, starch-rich foods may produce varying amounts of acrylamide after high-temperature processing, and some people worry that this substance poses a carcinogenic risk. Fan Zhihong, a nutrition expert at the Agricultural University, believes that because the metabolism of the elderly is relatively slow and the bodies of young children are still developing and their detoxification ability is relatively poor, if these two groups of people eat fried foods containing acrylamide for a long time, the toxins will not be easily excreted, which will cause the greatest harm to their health. People with chronic diseases such as hyperlipidemia, hypertension, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and diabetes must refuse crispy foods such as potato chips.

Based on the above introduction, I believe that our expectant mothers know whether potato chips are suitable for us to eat. Potato chips are a high-calorie food and a kind of fried food. It’s okay to eat less, but if you eat them for a long time, it will be harmful. Eating too many potato chips will cause internal heat, and eating potato chips will also make you gain weight more easily. Therefore, it is not recommended for pregnant women to eat potato chips during pregnancy. You can eat more nutritious foods.
