How to test your body temperature during pregnancy

Dear expectant mothers, during the pregnancy preparation period, you must take good care of your body, not let your body bear more burdens, and also be accommodating in diet. You know, I'm not alone now, there's a baby in my belly. So, when preparing for pregnancy, you must always test your body temperature frequently. So how do you test during pregnancy preparation? Let’s take a look below.

The principle of basal body temperature

The body temperature measured when a person wakes up after a long period of sleep (6 hours) and before engaging in any activity is called basal body temperature. By measuring basal body temperature, we can initially understand whether a woman has ovulated and the condition of the corpus luteum function after ovulation. The basal body temperature of normal women of childbearing age changes cyclically, just like the menstrual cycle, and this temperature change is related to ovulation.

The basal body temperature measurement time can be recorded from the first day of menstruation (just cross out the first few days), and then start recording from the first day of menstruation, and continue for one month.

How to measure basal body temperature

1. Buy a basal body thermometer. The basal thermometer is different from a general thermometer. Its scale is denser, and 36.7 degrees Celsius (24 on the scale) is generally used as the boundary between high and low temperatures. (36 degrees – scale 10; 38 degrees – scale 50).

2. Place the basal body thermometer next to your pillow where you can easily reach it before going to bed. When you wake up the next day, before you get up and move around, place it under your tongue and measure for three minutes, and record the results on the basal body temperature chart.

3. If you have difficulty measuring your body temperature in the morning, you can measure it at a fixed time every day. Remember not to do strenuous exercise or drink hot or cold food half an hour before.

4. Menstruation and sexual intercourse days must be marked with additional signs. In case of fever, excessive drinking, late sleep, late waking, and other conditions that may affect body temperature, special notes should also be made.

Notes on measuring basal body temperature

In order to improve the accuracy of measuring basal body temperature, the mercury column on the thermometer should be shaken to below 35 degrees before going to bed every night, and it should be placed on the bedside table or next to the pillow so that it is readily available when used, and try to minimize movement. If you get up and take the thermometer, your basal body temperature will rise, making the temperature value for the day meaningless.

Through the detailed and insightful explanation above, I believe that all expectant mothers who are preparing for pregnancy have already understood it. Indeed, it is very important to pay attention to your physical health at all times during pregnancy preparation. You must pay attention to every detail and not make any mistakes. In order to ensure your baby's safe arrival in this beautiful world, start now.
