Are you a hard-working person who feels that your fingers are not as flexible as before? Do you feel pain in your wrists when you move them? Then be careful, it may be tenosynovitis.

In recent years, the incidence of tenosynovitis has been increasing. What is the reason? How to prevent it? Today, experts from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of Changsha Fourth Hospital will introduce it to you!

Tenosynovitis refers to an acute or chronic inflammatory reaction of the tendon sheath. Its root cause is excessive friction between the tendon and the tendon sheath, which causes an inflammatory reaction of the tendon sheath, ultimately leading to symptoms such as edema, swelling, local pain, tenderness, and limited joint movement.

1. Who does tenosynovitis “favor”?

1. People who often do housework

The wrists and fingers are used in washing clothes, cooking, sweeping the floor, etc. Since the hand joints are used extremely frequently, damaging inflammation of the tendons and tendon sheaths will occur over time.

2. Occupational groups with long-term repetitive strain on joints

Typists, instrumentalists, cargo handlers, etc. need to use their hand joints frequently and are prone to tenosynovitis.

3. Women who often wear high heels

Women who often wear high heels put tremendous pressure on their toes. Over time, the pain and swelling of the soft tissues of the feet can easily lead to tenosynovitis.

In addition, people who maintain incorrect postures for a long time are also more likely to suffer from tenosynovitis. For example, playing with mobile phones for a long time will put the wrists and fingers in an abnormal position, increasing the risk of tenosynovitis.

2. What are the symptoms of tenosynovitis?

1. Pain and swelling

Most patients cannot clearly point out the location of pain, but only complain of joint "twisting", soreness or a feeling of weakness in the joints during exercise. Sometimes they feel a strip-like pain. Often causes pain, most patients cannot clearly point out the location of pain, soreness or a feeling of weakness in the joints during exercise.

There will be varying degrees of local swelling, causing functional impairment of movement and affecting normal work and study. If not diagnosed and treated, it may develop into permanent mobility impairment.

2. Difficulty in flexing fingers

Stenosing tenosynovitis may cause difficulty in finger movement, a trigger-like sensation, also known as trigger finger, which is most obvious in the morning, but will improve after a few movements. In severe cases, it may produce a snapping sound, also known as snapping finger.

3. Dysfunction

Tenosynovitis of the wrist often affects the strength of the joints, causing deformation of movements during exercise. Severe patients may even be unable to lift objects with the affected limb.

After reading this, if you suspect that you have "tenosynovitis", you might as well put down your phone and do the following self-test:

1. Put your thumb in the palm of your hand, clench the other four fingers, and press down in the direction of the thumb. If you feel pain, it is very likely that you have tendonitis in your wrist.

2. First clench your fist, then open your fist and straighten your fingers. If one of the fingers cannot be straightened or feels pain during the straightening process and makes a "clicking" sound, it means that this finger may have tenosynovitis.

3. How to prevent tenosynovitis?

1. Avoid long-term repetitive labor, take regular breaks and relax your hands and wrists.

2. Maintain a good posture, especially when using computers, mobile phones and other devices for a long time, pay attention to adjusting your posture and angle.

3. Use protective gear properly, such as wrist guards and hand guards, to reduce pressure on your hands and wrists.

4. For people who engage in repetitive labor for a long time, regular physical examinations and checks can be conducted to detect and treat tenosynovitis in a timely manner.
