Amazing! This "hardcore" team successfully completed two type A aortic dissection surgeries within a week

Recently, the cardiac surgery team of the Heart Center of Yiyang Central Hospital successfully completed two emergency surgeries for type A aortic dissection within a week, demonstrating the hospital's high level and rapid response capabilities in emergency cardiovascular surgery treatment.

On November 10, 73-year-old Yan Di went to another hospital for treatment due to sudden chest pain that lasted for 6 hours. He was diagnosed with aortic dissection and pericardial effusion. His condition was extremely critical and the patient was in danger of death at any time.

Type A aortic dissection (Stanford type A aortic dissection) is the most dangerous disease known to humans. Once a blood vessel ruptures, it can take the patient's life in just 10 seconds. Within 48 hours after the onset of the disease, the mortality rate is 36-72%, and the risk of death will increase by 1-2% every hour. If the dissection accumulates in important branch blood vessels and causes organ ischemia, the mortality rate will be even higher.

Faced with such a serious disease, the External Hospital immediately contacted the 120 ambulance of Yiyang Central Hospital for emergency transfer. The Director of the Medical Department Xu Bin and the Deputy Director Wu Ming immediately coordinated the High-tech Campus's pre-hospital emergency department, cardiac surgery, B-ultrasound room, operating room, intensive care unit, imaging center, and blood transfusion department to open a green channel. The entire process took less than 2 hours, from transferring the patient to the hospital to completing preoperative examinations and entering the operating room to prepare for emergency surgery.

Director of cardiac surgery Hu Jun and attending physician Xiao Wei combined preoperative examinations and intraoperative explorations to find that the patient's aorta was torn from the root to the ascending aorta, involving the brachiocephalic trunk and the opening of the left common carotid artery. Obvious blood accumulation was visible in the pericardium, and the patient's condition was very serious.

Hu Jun led the medical team to work closely together, and after a 10-hour emergency operation overnight, they successfully performed aortic valvuloplasty + ascending aorta replacement + total aortic arch artificial blood vessel replacement + elephant trunk stent implantation on the patient under extracorporeal circulation.

After the operation, the patient's vital signs are stable under the careful care of the cardiac surgery and intensive care medical teams, and he has been transferred to the general ward for rehabilitation treatment. Another patient, Mr. Long, has also successfully completed the operation and is undergoing active postoperative rehabilitation treatment in the intensive care unit.

Type A aortic dissection is an aortic emergency with a high mortality rate and high complication rate, which requires timely diagnosis and treatment. Surgical open surgery to repair the ascending aorta is the standard treatment for type A aortic dissection. It is known as the jewel in the crown of surgical procedures and is crucial to saving patients' lives. Currently, only the Central Hospital in Yiyang City can routinely perform such operations.

The Department of Cardiac Surgery of Yiyang Central Hospital officially moved to the High-tech Campus in September this year. It currently routinely performs various cardiac surgeries, including congenital heart disease correction, various valvuloplasty, valve replacement, maze surgery, extracorporeal and non-extracorporeal coronary artery bypass grafting, cardiac tumor resection, ascending aorta replacement, total aortic arch replacement, and elephant trunk stent implantation, providing solid medical protection for patients with cardiovascular diseases.
