Liu Qian revealed that he had lung adenocarcinoma, but he was lucky

Recently, #刘谦患pulmonary adenocarcinoma# has become a hot topic. According to Taiwanese media reports, Liu Qian said in an interview recently that he was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma and had completed surgery in February.

It is reported that Liu Qian was diagnosed with a shadow in his lungs before performing at the Spring Festival Gala this year, but he decided to wait until after the performance to avoid affecting the performance. In addition, Liu Qian also said that his uncle had just passed away from lung cancer a while ago, and he was worried about the family history of the disease, so it would be more reassuring to have the surgery early. In addition to the need for regular follow-up visits, he has also given up his smoking habit of many years.

So, what exactly is lung adenocarcinoma? Why is it called the "lucky cancer" among lung cancers? Who is more likely to get lung adenocarcinoma? And how can we prevent it? This issue of "Health Focus" will reveal the secrets for you.

1. Why is lung adenocarcinoma called the “happy cancer” among lung cancers?

In daily life, when we hear that someone has lung cancer, we all feel nervous and afraid. After all, according to the "Malignant Tumor Incidence and Mortality in China in 2022" released by the National Cancer Center, lung cancer ranks first among malignant tumors in terms of both incidence and mortality [1].

However, there are many types of lung cancer, and not all lung cancers are "fatal". Among lung cancers, lung adenocarcinoma is a relatively lucky cancer.

Lung cancer can be divided into small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer (squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, large cell carcinoma, etc.) according to cell morphology. Among them, small cell lung cancer has the highest malignancy and the worst treatment effect. Among non-small cell lung cancer, lung adenocarcinoma has a relatively low malignancy, slow tumor growth and metastasis, and the best treatment effect.

Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer, accounting for about 50% of all lung cancers. It usually arises from mutations in the mucus-secreting granular cells that line the outside of the lungs and the bronchial tubes. Lung adenocarcinoma occurs when cells in the glands surrounding the organs begin to grow out of control.

Lung adenocarcinoma that is discovered early usually has a high cure rate through surgical resection, with a 5-year survival rate of more than 80%. Liu Qian was diagnosed with stage 0 lung adenocarcinoma (also known as carcinoma in situ), which means that the tumor cells are limited to their site of origin and have not invaded surrounding tissues or metastasized to distant sites. After treatment, the 5-year survival rate is usually close to 100%.

In addition, a high proportion of patients with lung adenocarcinoma have specific gene mutations, such as EGFR, ALK, ROS1, etc. In other words, if a patient has a specific mutated gene, there is a chance to use targeted drugs for treatment. Even for advanced lung adenocarcinoma (stage III, stage IV), there is still a chance to use targeted drugs to significantly prolong survival.

2. Why did I get lung adenocarcinoma when I was fine? How can I prevent it?

When diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma, many people will be shocked. Why do I have lung adenocarcinoma? In fact, the occurrence of lung adenocarcinoma is related to many factors.

· Smoking: Smoking is one of the main causes of lung adenocarcinoma.

Environmental factors: Long-term exposure to environmental factors such as air pollution, industrial chemicals, and radioactive substances may increase the risk of lung adenocarcinoma.

Gene mutations: Certain gene mutations may be associated with the development of lung adenocarcinoma.

Age and gender: It is more common in people over 50 years old, and the incidence rate is usually higher in women.

Family history: People with a family history of lung cancer may have a higher risk of developing lung adenocarcinoma.

Therefore, the key to preventing lung adenocarcinoma is to reduce exposure to risk factors and adopt a healthy lifestyle . In addition to quitting smoking, avoiding secondhand smoke and reducing exposure to occupational carcinogens, you should also maintain healthy living habits, such as a balanced diet and moderate exercise.

In addition, since the early symptoms of lung adenocarcinoma are not obvious, they are only symptoms common to general respiratory diseases, such as cough, blood in sputum, low fever, chest pain, shortness of breath, etc., which are easy to be overlooked. Therefore, regular physical examinations are very important.

The high-risk age for lung cancer in my country is 45-65 years old. It is recommended that high-risk groups must have regular physical examinations, especially those who may be exposed to asbestos or other occupational environments, those who have smoked for more than 20 years, or those with a family history of lung cancer. It is best to undergo lung cancer screening once a year. For healthy people without obvious lung cancer risk factors, it is not recommended to have a CT scan every year. A CT scan every 3-5 years is sufficient.

Finally, I hope Liu Qian will recover soon, and I also hope that everyone will pay attention to lung adenocarcinoma and do a good job in preventing it.
