Early signs of autism can usually be observed in infancy and early childhood. The most common early signs include a lack of social interaction and communication skills. For example, children with autism may not respond to other people's facial expressions and sounds, have difficulty maintaining eye contact, and not point or show objects to others. They may not like to play with children of the same age, lack interaction and imitation of behavior, and have difficulty understanding and responding to the emotions and behaviors of others.

In terms of speech, children with autism may have delayed language development, and some still cannot speak at the age of two, or can only use limited vocabulary and phrases. In terms of behavior, children with autism often show repetitive and stereotyped behavior patterns. They may repeatedly do certain actions, such as clapping, rocking the body, or have a strong interest and dependence on certain objects, such as fixed toys or the way objects are placed.
