Why is a half marathon more dangerous than a full marathon?

A half marathon is 21.0975 kilometers, and a full marathon is 42.195 kilometers. No matter from which aspect, the full marathon is much more difficult than the half marathon!

But why is it said that running a half marathon is more dangerous than a full marathon?

According to relevant marathon event records, sudden death is most common on the half marathon track.

When the marathon season comes, I will sign up for marathons in various places. Through some data, I can clearly feel that the popularity of half marathons is higher than that of full marathons.

This can be clearly seen from the contrast between the official number of half marathon participants and the number of full marathon participants.

In my personal opinion, the reason why "half marathon is riskier" is nothing more than the following reasons!

I have no respect for the half marathon

Judging from the distance, it is indeed half less than a full marathon, and only half more than 10 kilometers. When I do the math in my mind, it seems that a half marathon is not that difficult.

This is the mentality of most beginner runners. They believe that as long as they have run 10 kilometers regularly, it will not be a problem to grit their teeth and run another 10 kilometers slowly. As long as they persist, the probability of finishing the race is still very high.

But it is precisely this kind of thinking that leads to collapse in the second half, and even for those who are not in good health, this often puts their lives in danger.

In addition, there is a group of more experienced runners who have also participated in marathons. In their eyes, a half marathon is just a stretch and a training exercise. As a result, they do not control their diet before the race and some even drink alcohol. In this case, something bad will definitely happen when they hit the track the next day.

Therefore, for a runner, whether it is a half marathon or a full marathon, you must have a heart of awe. Once you lose this attitude of respecting life, danger will quietly come to you!

Lack of daily systematic training

A "half marathon" is also a marathon. Running more than 20 kilometers is a high-intensity, long-distance and arduous battle, let alone for a mass runner.

Therefore, if you want to finish the race safely, it is difficult to maintain body balance and muscle endurance without a systematic daily training.

No matter you are a master runner or a novice runner, you must go through a period of systematic training before running long distances. After all, this sport requires a runner's comprehensive ability to be very high. It depends on how we use our usual training tactics and physical fitness to win the game.

In real life, I have seen many runners who usually only run 10 kilometers at most, relying on their willpower to grit their teeth and move forward. In the second half, many of them ran with cramps and dragged their legs, which was really heartbreaking and funny to watch.

Although they also exude a sporting spirit of struggle, this kind of brute force of "going into battle without preparation" is not advisable and is very irrational.

What’s even more amazing is that there are people who have never run 10 kilometers before, but are gritting their teeth to participate in the competition. Sometimes I wonder how these people got the lottery?

Behind the seemingly crazy appearance is actually a destruction of one's own health!

I hope all runners can remember that no matter whether it is a half marathon or a full marathon, we must have a sense of awe and be able to develop a set of systematic training to practice well before the competition.

Half marathon and full marathon are both extreme sports. If you want to finish the race safely, you need to put in more effort in your daily life!
