How do diabetics survive the dog days of summer (Strategy 4)

In the hot summer, walking barefoot on the beach, watching the waves and listening to the sea breeze is so pleasant. However, for diabetics, how to spend the dog days of summer and whether you can take a spontaneous trip, please see the fourth guide.

1. Pay attention to insulin storage

Generally speaking, opened insulin can be stored at room temperature of 25℃ for 4-6 weeks. However, the temperature is high in summer. If the air conditioner is not turned on, the room temperature will generally exceed 25℃. At this time, the insulin should be stored in the refrigerator. However, be careful to take out the insulin pen 30 minutes in advance before use to reduce the stimulation caused by low temperature.

When traveling, diabetic patients who use insulin should carry the insulin in an insulated box or bag. Never place the insulin in the trunk of a car or in direct sunlight, because the high temperature in a car in summer will accelerate the ineffectiveness of the insulin.

If you take an airplane, please note that insulin should be carried with you and not checked in, because the temperature in the airplane luggage compartment is too low and the insulin will freeze and become ineffective.

2. Knowing “enough” brings happiness

In the hot summer, walking barefoot on the beach, watching the waves and listening to the sea breeze is so pleasant. However, for diabetics, especially those with peripheral neuropathy, the feet are dulled, the self-protection function is reduced, and the skin of the feet is easily injured. Be sure to wear shoes when walking on the beach to avoid being scratched by sand, glass slag, shells, etc. Diabetics should remember that it is not advisable to walk barefoot indoors or outdoors, and be content with what you have.

The temperature is high in summer, and feet sweat more, which makes tinea pedis prone to occur. Be sure to dry your feet after washing them, keep the skin between the toes dry, and avoid bacterial and fungal infections. Diabetic patients with tinea pedis should seek timely treatment.

Diabetic patients should choose suitable soft-soled shoes to avoid ulceration caused by friction between the foot skin and sandals. It is best to choose loose sandals that cover the toes. Female patients should try not to choose slippers and high-heeled sandals to reduce the risk of toes being scratched or abraded. Once the foot skin is damaged, it is important to "make a fuss" and go to the hospital for treatment in time. Never apply medicine on your own to avoid infection.
