In recent years, Ms. Wang often felt tired and sore eyes, and her vision was a little blurry. She thought it was just myopia and didn't take it seriously. Until recently, the eye condition had seriously affected her life. After a check-up in the hospital, she found out that she had an irreversible blinding eye disease. Ms. Wang, 26 years old this year, lives in Xianning, Hubei. Four years ago, she found that her eyesight had deteriorated, but she thought it was myopia caused by overuse of the eyes and she didn't care until she stumbled when walking recently, and then went to the local hospital for treatment. After examination, it was found that her intraocular pressure was high in both eyes, and antihypertensive treatment was given. Ms. Wang then came to the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University. After examination, it was found that her left eye had a naked eye vision of 0.4, an intraocular pressure of 34 mmHg (normal intraocular pressure is 10 to 21 mmHg), and a superior nasal arch defect in the visual field; the right eye had a naked eye vision of 0.04, an intraocular pressure of 39 mmHg, and only the central visual field remained. Finally, Ms. Wang was diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma and needed surgery to control the intraocular pressure, otherwise the visual field would be further lost. In this regard, Ms. Wang was very surprised: How could she suffer from glaucoma at such a young age? Zhang Ying, deputy chief physician of the glaucoma department, said that middle-aged and elderly people over 45 years old are at high risk of glaucoma, but in fact, people of any age can suffer from glaucoma, even infants and young children are no exception. Primary open-angle glaucoma, also known as chronic simple glaucoma, is an eye disease caused by increased intraocular pressure, which leads to optic nerve damage, visual field defects, and eventually blindness. Because it progresses very slowly and has no obvious symptoms, it is not easy to detect early. Many patients with primary open-angle glaucoma are often in the late stage when they come to see a doctor. Last week, Wu Zuohong, the director of the glaucoma department, performed internal Schlemm's canal dilation on Ms. Wang's right eye and left eye. After the treatment, Ms. Wang's intraocular pressure has returned to normal, but the lost visual field is irreversible. "Primary open-angle glaucoma is characterized by the absence of symptoms. People often think that their myopia has worsened, so they delay going to the hospital for examination." Zhang Ying reminded that young people spend a long time looking at mobile phones and computers, which is in a state of excessive eye use. In addition, the pressure of work and life, and emotional fluctuations may become factors that induce increased intraocular pressure. Regular fundus examination and intraocular pressure measurement are very meaningful for the early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment of glaucoma. |
