Protect epilepsy patients with more understanding and care

According to statistics, about 50% of epilepsy patients suffer from at least one co-morbidity. The comorbidity rate of epilepsy patients is much higher than that of the general population, which increases the difficulty of diagnosis and treatment of patients and increases the disability and mortality rates.

What is epilepsy?

Sudden loss of consciousness, falling to the ground, screaming, whole body twitching, and possible local convulsions (such as face, upper limbs, lower limbs, one side of the limbs), mental abnormalities, abnormal behavior or abnormal sensations are typical manifestations of an epileptic seizure.

What is epilepsy? Epilepsy, commonly known as "epilepsy", is a common neurological disease. An epileptic seizure is a transient brain dysfunction caused by excessive discharge of brain nerve cells, with repeated sudden, transient, and recoverable abnormal behaviors.

There are about 9 million epilepsy patients in my country, and more than 400,000 new epilepsy patients appear every year. At least half of the patients develop the disease during childhood or adolescence. In fact, epilepsy is not terrible. With regular anti-epileptic treatment, the seizures of most patients can be controlled. Even if they need to take medication for life, they can still study, work and live like normal people. For a small number of patients who are not satisfied with the effects of commonly used drug treatment, they can undergo surgical treatment or use new anti-epileptic drugs and new treatment methods. In short, epilepsy patients can work and live like normal people after reasonable anti-epileptic drug treatment.

"In daily life, many epileptic patients have seizures inadvertently, and we stay away from them or even discriminate against them. Epileptic patients feel uncomfortable when they feel such strange looks!" Experts say that no matter what symptoms epileptic patients have, their relatives and friends around them must provide psychological support, always pay attention to the patient's emotional development, and actively communicate with the patient.

Epilepsy is a common neurological disease that affects the lives of millions of people worldwide. According to statistics, in my country, the number of epilepsy patients has reached more than 9 million, and this number is still growing. Painter Van Gogh, ancient Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, writers Dostoyevsky and Dickens, military strategist Napoleon, inventor Nobel, they have also made contributions to society as epileptic patients.

Henan Provincial Disease Control and Prevention experts believe that epilepsy patients can work and live like normal people after reasonable anti-epileptic drug treatment, and social care will have a good effect on the rehabilitation treatment of epilepsy patients.

These four conditions are likely to induce epilepsy

Epilepsy is a phenomenon in which there is a transient disorder of brain nerves and their functions. Many factors in life may cause a patient's already stable epileptic seizure.

For example, emotional excitement, excessive excitement or grief, strong and varied sound and light stimulation are special triggers for some patients, and are the fuse that causes epileptic seizures in some patients. Staying calm is the best way to extinguish the fuse of emotional excitement.

Secondly, overwork or strenuous exercise. When exercising, the brain is very busy, coordinating various systems and processing various information changes brought about by exercise. The workload of neurons in the brain has increased several times. Insufficient sleep caused by staying up late or insomnia is also a cause. Moderate exercise and reasonable rest are the ways to extinguish the fuse of overwork.

In addition, epilepsy requires long-term medication. Any reduction or discontinuation of medication must be done according to the doctor's orders. The dosage must be gradually reduced until it is stopped. Unauthorized discontinuation of medication may cause epileptic seizures. You must take medication on time according to the doctor's orders.

It is worth noting that drinking beverages containing alcohol or caffeine may also induce epileptic seizures in epileptic patients. Therefore, epileptic patients should not drink alcohol or caffeinated beverages.
