A woman got orbital cellulitis after getting false eyelashes. People with allergies or susceptible to eyelashes are not recommended to get eyelashes

After the woman had false eyelashes, her eye socket became infected and the inflammation almost affected her eyeball. After three days of hospitalization, the woman's condition has improved significantly.

A friend invited Ms. Xie (pseudonym) to be a bridesmaid during the May Day holiday. In order to look beautiful as a bridesmaid, Ms. Xie had false eyelashes implanted in a studio a week ago. After receiving the patient, Lu Xiulan, deputy chief physician of the hospital's eyelid and orbital disease/ocular plastic surgery department, said that Ms. Xie's right eye was swollen, her eyelids and conjunctiva were edematous, her eye movement was restricted, and there was obvious tenderness. The preliminary diagnosis was that the spread of eye inflammation led to orbital cellulitis, and she needed timely drug treatment.

After learning about Ms. Xie's illness, Director Lu Xiulan judged that it might be due to improper grafting operations in the studio, local allergic reactions caused by false eyelashes and local use of adhesives, unhygienic personal eye use, etc., which caused bacteria to invade the patient's eyes.

On the third day of hospitalization, the swelling in Ms. Xie's right eye had basically subsided, the symptoms of limited eye opening had disappeared, and her condition had improved significantly.

Nowadays, eyelash extensions have become a new consumer fashion. Director Lu Xiulan said that eyelash extensions are easily contaminated, increasing the risk of bacterial eye infection. Poor eyelid hygiene may also cause blepharitis and superficial skin infection. In mild cases, it can cause eyelid cellulitis or orbital cellulitis, causing permanent vision loss. In severe cases, it can lead to cavernous sinus thrombosis and cranial infection, and even life-threatening.

Director Lu Xiulan reminded that if citizens really need to have eyelash transplants, they should choose regular institutions for disinfection and aseptic operations, and the materials and accessories involved in false eyelashes should also be regular materials; eyelash transplants are not recommended for people with allergies, people who are susceptible to infection, etc.; people who repeatedly have false eyelashes should go to the hospital regularly for eye examinations and eyelid margin cleaning; after eyelash transplantation, if you experience discomfort symptoms such as itching, redness and swelling around the eyes, conjunctival congestion, etc., you should seek medical attention in time to avoid serious consequences.
