Parents should also take good care of themselves in the new year!

They say people have to accept old age when they get older.

In appearance, that is

Age spots, white hair, wrinkles

Internally, the body's functions begin to deteriorate.

Various chronic diseases come to the door one after another

Going home for Spring Festival

I found that my parents were bent over and had blurred vision.

It turns out that "everything is fine" is often said on the phone

Is because we are worried about the false impression created

Let parents "see" our love

Let's learn about eye care knowledge during the Spring Festival

What is Cataract

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the world. It is caused by various reasons such as aging, heredity, trauma, local nutritional disorders, immune and metabolic abnormalities, poisoning, radiation, etc., which can cause lens metabolism disorders, leading to lens protein denaturation and turbidity, resulting in cataracts.

What are the symptoms of cataracts?

1. Gradually blurred vision

The common symptom of cataract is progressive blurring of vision. If the normal vision of a person is through a piece of clear glass, the vision of a cataract patient is like through a piece of "frosted glass", and everything is blurry. As time goes by, the blurriness may gradually increase until it is completely blurred.

2. Double vision

The appearance of aperture when looking at things is mainly because in the early stage of cataract, the lens has not yet become completely cloudy and some parts are still transparent. Therefore, when the light hits the lens and is refracted to the retina, double or even multiple images will appear.

3. There are dark shadows

Some patients will find that their color recognition ability decreases, and the world before their eyes seems to turn into black and white, losing its original colorful brightness.

4. Day blindness or night blindness

Some cataract patients may also experience day blindness or night blindness. Day blindness refers to the vision in bright light being worse than in the evening or at night; night blindness is just the opposite, the vision at night or in dim light suddenly becomes worse than before.

5. Presbyopia suddenly improves

Some elderly people are very happy to find that their presbyopia symptoms have suddenly eased and they can read and write without reading glasses. In fact, this is only a temporary phenomenon and a typical symptom of early cataracts. As the cataract gradually worsens, vision becomes unclear whether it is far or near.

The following groups should be cautious

1. People aged 50 and above

Cataract is a degenerative disease. Its incidence rate increases with age. People over 50 years old need to pay attention to eye care and examination.

2. People who are exposed to ultraviolet rays for a long time

Long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays in the sun will affect the redox process of the lens, causing the lens protein to denature and become turbid, inducing cataracts. The longer the exposure time, the greater the possibility of cataracts.

3. People with a family history of cataracts

Like many diseases, cataracts tend to run in families. If people in your family get cataracts at an early age, you may also get cataracts at an early age. Therefore, people with a family history of cataracts should pay more attention.

4. People with diabetes and hypertension

In addition to causing retinal diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. are more likely to cause a series of eye diseases, such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, etc. Patients should have regular eye examinations so that timely treatment can be given when diseases are discovered early.

In addition, smoking, obesity, excessive eye use, eye injury or inflammation, etc. may also increase the incidence of cataracts.

The cataract and presbyopia specialist at the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University reminds that if you find that your parents have blurred vision, double vision, photophobia, glare, or cannot see clearly even with reading glasses, you must take your parents to a regular ophthalmic medical institution for examination as soon as possible to detect and treat early so that they can enjoy the quality of life brought by clear vision.
