Really? Myopia is too severe to undergo surgery?

Really? Myopia is too severe to undergo surgery?

Severe myopia or even super-severe myopia can also be cured by myopia surgery, which can help people get rid of the shackles of glasses! But this myopia surgery has its "attentions"!

What is (super) high myopia?

Generally speaking, more than 600 degrees is called high myopia, and more than 1000 degrees is called super myopia.

Why may some surgical procedures not be suitable for (super) high myopia?

In fact, this statement is one-sided and cannot cover all situations.

There are certain reasons why people worry that "the degree of myopia is too high and they cannot undergo myopia surgery". When it comes to the myopia correction surgery that everyone is generally aware of, it often refers to laser myopia surgery. Laser myopia surgery can correct our refractive degree by changing the thickness of the cornea, etc.

If the preoperative examination results show that the degree of correction and the amount of corneal tissue that needs to be removed for the myopic patient are not consistent with his or her own corneal conditions, then the patient cannot undergo laser myopia surgery under the premise of ensuring safety.

But then again, whether and what type of myopia surgery can be performed depends on the patient's own eye condition. If the eye condition permits, friends with high myopia or very high myopia can also undergo laser myopia surgery.

How to correct (super) high myopia surgically?

If friends with high myopia are unable to undergo laser surgery, it does not mean that they have lost the possibility of surgical correction. In addition to laser surgery, which may not be suitable, "additive" surgeries such as intraocular lens implantation (ICL) can correct myopia up to 1800 degrees.

We need to remind everyone again that laser procedures or lens implantation procedures are not absolutely selected based on the degree of the eye. We need to go to a professional ophthalmology institution for a preoperative examination and choose a procedure that suits our eye conditions based on the examination results.
