Although the United States has enacted a special law prohibiting the downloading and use of DeepSeek in the United States, and violators may be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison, it still cannot stop Americans' enthusiasm for DeepSeek. It's just that some people have ulterior motives.

According to statistics from Qi'anxin XLab, in just over two months from December 1, 2024 to February 3, 2025, as many as 2,650 copycat DeepSeek domain names appeared on the Internet. Especially starting from January 26, 2025, such copycat domain names began to appear on a large scale and quickly reached a peak on January 28, with more than 800 copycat domain names on that day . The speed slowed down afterwards, but it continued to increase.

These domain names involve approximately 180 different registrars, of which the top 10 registrars account for 69% of the names.

Among them, the number of com domain names reached 1,685, while the number of net, xyz, and cn were all in the eighties or nineties.

Judging from the resolution results, as many as 60% of the resolution IPs of these copycat domain names are from the United States, which is quite ironic.

The rest are mainly distributed in Singapore (11%), Germany (5%), Lithuania (4%), Russia (4%), China (2%) and France (2%).

The global nature of phishing domain names means that users may face different types of network attacks from all over the world, and potential security threats are more complex and diverse.

These counterfeit domain names are mainly used for phishing fraud, domain name registration, and traffic diversion. Phishing fraud is mainly carried out by stealing user login credentials, misleading users with similar domain names and interfaces, and tricking users into purchasing virtual assets.

In addition, the scammers keep up with technological trends and take advantage of the market's excitement to launch so-called "air coins" with various high-end functions that are "added by DeepSeek", that is, virtual currencies that have no real value. There are even websites that claim that you can buy DeepSeek's original shares.

For this reason, DeepSeek officially issued a statement, emphasizing that it currently only has official accounts on three social media platforms: WeChat official accounts, Xiaohongshu, and X (Twitter), and all other official accounts are counterfeit.

Moreover, DeepSeek's official website and official genuine app do not contain any advertisements or paid items.
